New vRS PD170 Demo's

Featured Replies

I was in the dealership this morning looking over my new car and got to talking about the PD170 vRS.

I was shown the details on the Skoda car ordering system and there are only 2 dealers with a Demo on order. Do you think this is a sign of dealers not expecting to sell many?

If you do want to see one Sparshatts of Fareham have one currently on the boat and another garage in the Norwich area has one 4 build weeks behind that.

I don't know mate, he showed me the ordering screen which just showed the two for dealers demo cars.

Also had a look at the Roomster and they've got four of those coming in soon.

Funny that, we have a hatch and an Estate sat at the port waiting for a transporter to bring them to the dealership.....................................................................watch this space

Great ants - will you be doing any reviews for the boys?

I was so close to waiting when I ordered mine but felt that I just wanted to go back to petrol.

Depends if I win the fight for the keys! :D

You reckon you can top the list for a demo then eh!!!

Hopefully we'll have a hatch and an estate so that should double my chances!

Do you think the Dealers will be able to get them on the road before September 1rst or will they have to be 56 reg? I would love to get my hands on one for the planned test drive when we go to Bristol, but we are coming home on the 27th. Still, at least having my fabia shows that skoda can produce a decent diesel engine so that will be a good start. I take it there won't be any changes between the petrol and the diesel to the interior or anything else?

I'm seriously wondering how good it will end up being. It wouldn't surprise me if there are a lot of people that end up going for the 'Sports' version of the PD130 or PD140 and then tune that up instead.

It really depends on how they've got to that 170 bhp, and I must admit I'd like to find out how torque-rich that petrol vRS Mk2 is :D

Horners BURY will have one in 3 weeks...

Already booked a test drive :D .

I just dont understand the fuss about this car.

The petrol vRS has tonnes of torque, 30 more bhp, will do 35 mpg (if treated gently) is cheaper and doesn't sound like a taxi.

Just my thoughts.

I think it's the hope the success of the Fabia vRS can be repeated for the Octavia vRS. It could be a success, but if the fuel economy isn't much better than the petrol one it seems a little pointless.

We'll see how it works out in time :D

All the reviews which I have read about this engine (PD 170) point to it being ridiculously 'peaky' and a real handful to drive. In the wet, apparently it was described by one reviewer as 'bordering on dangerous!' Is it really the sort of engine we need in an Octavia - I merely ask the question!

But if you drive it at all enthusiastically you'll be on the wrong side of 30mpg.

The diesel one should still be on the smiley side of 40 , and when driven gently on a motorway or A roads will get 50.

If you do a lot of mileage thats still a significant saving

Point taken...the economy does fall through the floor when thrashed.

I did get 38 last week cruising down the A14 to Cambridge in a line of traffic at 50 to 60mph but on average I'm getting around 32mpg.

However diesel is dearer and the 170 list price is a fair bit higher so it will take a lot of miles to make back the money.

Excitement is the spice of life !!!:D

Wouldn't mind taking one of these for a spin myself purely in the interests of science of course.

I think the diesel VRS is aimed at the company drivers - all other things being equal I'd have the petrol any day of the week but the diesel would save me a packet in tax

Rich

Ants, could you book me a test drive in the estate please?

Let me know by PM.......

Not as much as you may think.

Petrol vRS taxed at 25% (P11d = £17297) = £4324.25

Diesel vRS taxed at 21% (P11d = £18197) = £3821.37

which is only £502 difference, If you pay tax @ 22% thats £9 a month or £16 if you pay 40%.

Yes, but with my mileage of 50-60k per year, which would you take? :D

...plus tax on fuel benefit which is another £230 a year, and if I have a petrol car rather than a diesel I have to make a contribution towards it of £250 a year (company policy), and I resent paying any tax!!

Winchester showed me that they had ordered one, so by the sounds of things who actually knows :S
