Superb V6 TDI - Camshaft collapses!!

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, quick story about my Superb Elegance 2.5 V6 TDI 54 plate

On the 16th August is when it all started - on my way to the gym stopped at traffic lights I get hit in the back by citroen Xsara - this was the start of my bad luck.

Turns out the driver is uninsured and he has caused over

That is a worrying thing to read. Please keep us all updated as to how you get on with a new engine or replacement car etc...

Different, not heard of that before either (been working with that engine since 1999).

Update:

Just picked up my car today all repairs have been done to a high standard.

including drivers door grab handle due to peeling

and a brand new V6 TDI engine fitted, now sounds beautiful and smooth.

although i have to take it easy to bed in the engine.

but no cambelt needed for another 60k and no service for another 20k :)

The engine is now being sent to skoda for a full investigation into the camshaft design

I'm just happy to have my car back!

Although booked in again for thursday due to sunroof squeaking badly and the boot hinges gone really stiff - common fault under warranty

Good news all round.

I've done a little tidying up. You both know why.

HTH

Glad it's all OK now.

A nice result.

i had the identical problem to my octavia, really well maintained with all service records, had to pay to the tune of 4000 $

since this was in india & the car was 4 yrs old & clocked 90k kms, there was no support frm Skoda India for the same, all they had to say was tht it was a 1 in a million cases, but off lately realised tht there r many more Octavia's here having the same problem.

Sorry to say it but manufacturesr will hardly ever admit any form of mechanical problem & will even blatantly deny it, If they admit any kind of liability theylay themselves open to loads of claims. Safety issues are thankfully treated slightly better

Just found out its a commen problem with these engines in the VAG group.

Something to to with the robots that assemble the engines - when they put valve spring in if its not put in a certain way then it will cause the valve to snap and hit the camshaft.

So all the robots do is just put the spring in but sometimes it just happans to be the right way and other times it happens to go in the wrong way!!!!

Hence why this happens to some engines for no reason

Glad to hear you got sorted ok, how many miles had you covered before the engine gave up?
