The Future of Motoring on Television

Featured Replies

YES what ever happened to Top Gear Extra (on uktv whatever it was then) and other practical motoring programmes like Driven, Deals on Wheels and Wrong Car, Right Car, those sort of programmes are good to watch if made well like the ones above mentioned.

That
Nothing that a trip to Halfords can't put right ;)

yup we could soon have it looking like an under powered zonda bit of weding some unibond go faster striped and plenty of papier machae

ohh and a dap of paint ;)

Trouble is it may be a little biased.

We could have a How to get to the CZ with only

The technical section could have a 'how not to tow cars out of ditches' section too!!

Here we go.....

Loving your work:rofl:

Also some handy 'exploring the limits of your car' handling tips from our resident IBMA's ;)

I'd like to see a program in the format of Evo magazine which covers cars new and old. Features such as the recent best FWD car test would make good viewing IMHO.

If someone had the inclination to sit through Fifth Gear again with a stop watch (I couldn't as I have to watch my grass grow this evening), I wonder how much time would be devoted to seeing a moving car? So much of the programme was VBH & Lovejoy prattling on about nowt. Most frustrating. I spent a good part of the show shouting at the TV. There was no reaction from the presenters, but I felt a little bit better.

I've driven a Kia Picanto, I covered around 1300 miles in it one in one week. Birmingham to Middlesbrough, then driving between Boro and Sunderland every day for about a week, then back home. I'll do write up if you like but I will not drive the damn car again. :thumbdwn:

Look hard 'round the net and you will find some bittorrents of 1989 1990 and 1991 episodes of Top Gear.

That's the sort of motoring show we need. Affordable car tests and 'motoring' news.

Ok so the 1989 issues feature such newfangled issues as 'unleaded petrol' and road tests between the Saab 9000 and Vauxhall Senator...

Still, good to watch for quaint historical value. Jeremy Clarkson was a lot slimmer in those days too!

As for the Used Car Roadshow it is on Men and Motors (last night 9pm) at the moment.

Also, sold in sixty seconds which is a show about auctions and used car buying, pretty good show.

Used to watch Men & Motors on Freeview until some kind person decided to move it off the Freeview channel :thumbdwn: . M&M also had an interesting series which looked at the history of different car makes.

I kind of feel the same way about the WRC on tv now too. When Channel 4 first got it a few years back the coverage was great- at least two if not three programmes per event. Now I have to say it is pretty poor, and very back to basics. I remember when the season started this year- "now this is a car...":P

I recorded 5th gear to hard drive rather than watch it live and it took about 20 mins to watch as I skipped all the bits in cafe, the golf crushing, the competition stuff......oh yeah and the adverts.

if you fed him with fish on a rod, hed be quite a catch for sure, hed feed 500 for christmas and boxing day also

yer 5th gear is crap, mind you always has been i only used to watch it because of vicky butler henderson :o but now i cant be bothered seeing her on there.

love the sound of brisk gear, can i be one of the producers :D

could take the latest octy vrs out and show a controled manor of drivng and do all the stuff that top gear used to do years ago, then pull up next to some ***** corsa. chuck him out of the car. do it up for radio controled and make the **** watch me drive it off brighton pier, at 90mph

thus showing! lol. a great programe giving respect to the good cars (like the old top gear) then destroying the pieces of rubish out on british roads (like the new top gear)

do i get the job????????

You get my vote!

YAY cheers dude, when can i start. ill start by driving the latest vauxhall astra into a ditch, and then work out how long it will take for all the 5th gear presenters to escape from the boot of the sinking car

and then do a propper road test of some serious cars, i wouldnt put VBH in the boot of that astra how ever, she would be in the front of my next car next to me keeping her head down  if you get me;)

thats if she stops eating for4 and lost some of that weight shes been putting on for the last year, other wise id need to sink 2 astras and she would fill the boot on her own

Get yourself Sky basic package...British Eursport do the identical coverage that C4 had, its on 3 nites per event with a Shakedown programme a couple of days before hand.

Then you have the Moto GP, WTCC and WSB

Also with Sky you get Motors TV...all BTCC rounds LIVE, along with DTM.

If you enjoy your motorsport its well worth it.

May just have to look into that now. Never thought that I could justify it before, but now you have put it like that...

Hmmm.... I'm liking it, but it needs something. Maybe if we hooked up a caravan (TG stylee) to the said Corsa and drove it off Brighton Pier....

VBH , she would be in the front of my next car next to me keeping her head down  if you get me;)

 Hur hur I get ya! (Big Bob Joylove Harry Enfield)

You can also get British Eurosport on freeview with top up tv.

I love top gear , especially for some of the stunning shots they use , remember the episode in Iceland?...awesome , I also like the way they use filters on the cameras to tint the sky different colours , I like stuff like that!! Other good car shows are Wheeler Dealers , Deals on Wheels , Overhaulin' and American Hot Rod....I quite like Maxi Test on Motors TV as well , even tho its a French show with English overdubbed. I don't like Pimp my Ride tho , or Tuning Mania , some of those cars are jus' plain ugly...or maybe I'm getting old....
