Very Loud Whining Sound

Mr Grumbpy who did you buy your car off if you dont mind me asking.

Its just a ex memeber on here Liam had a red Fabia with a full miltek, pd160 intake pipe and filter plus said map above. His car was boosting to almost 2.0bar at 2.4Krpm droping to 1.6bar at 4Krpm.

The very same.

I bought it as he sold it from a main dealer, with warranty, except for the exhaust.

As I said before, I haven't had a bit of bother with it, although being a more mature driver, It does get some pasty, but I don't try to kill it.

Thanks chaps

Anyway, just been towed to my local dealership as I didn't want to risk causing any further damage by driving it. He seemed to agree with me when I suggested that it was the turbo. He had a good look around and all my intercooler pipe work was fine he said.

So, its looking doubtful that its just a simple pipework issue :( and more likely to be a turbo issue. When I started it up to get the car into position so the AA could tow it, the car was smoking very badly which is a sign of a turbo failure.

Going to be monday at the earliest before I will hear anything from the garage but as soon as I do I will let you all know how its going.

Cheers guys

Keep us posted H.

Ah well, good luck with a fix Harry.

This'll be the 3rd car with a blown turbo from said remapper. I'm aware of a turbo going on another *cheap* company remapped car, but no blown turbos from the big boys... hmmm. :rubchin:

Cheers dude.

It's looking that way isn't it. Maybe a drive down to Peterborough is called for when I'm back on't road.

Maybe indeed... Get a big turbo to make it worthwhile!

To be honest, I don't know of any other Briskodians who drive as hard as yourself and Dave, so that may skew the statistics somewhat! ;)

Anyway Graham, if you are reading this, I'M STILL WAITING FOR YOU TO COME AND TAKE MY MAP OFF. Thanks

But my car has done three times the milage and has had zero turbo-detonations ;)

Volvo 850 T5 here I come ;)

Does this problem seem to be related just to 1.9TDI's..... does anyone know of any similar problems with other derv engines, VAG or otherwise, done by said Tuning Company ?

  • Author

It would appear its mostly the 1.9 PDs

Hmmmm any one popped on to the Seat/VW sites to see how any of the mapped FR's/Cupra's/ Golf GT TDI's are getting on ?

IIRC said company re-vamped their 1.9TDI map around the beginging of this year as their original map was far too aggresive.... When was yours (and the others on here who have had problems) done Harry?

Mine has the "Milder" second map. I believe Dave (Shifty) has the same map, during which time he has had turbo problems.

Wonder if there have been any problems with the older map ?

One would assume so if it was more aggressive altho I cannot confirm this.

I'm glad AmD did mine. Although a generic One Click, it has more power than before, better economy, has NEVER missed a beat and although a bit expensive, seems to be one of the best there is.

It produces about 165 bhp and the clutch should survive for a while longer than 190 bhp.

I do feel that this type of mapping on a 'standard' car is a little agressive. To uprate the components of the car to suit this type of power gains seems much too expensive. Each to their own eh ?

Hope your motor turns out ok for you by the way

Cheers.

190bhp is only a guestimate, seeing as they quote 195bhp with just a remap, pd160 intake and green cotton. Many agree thats a bit enthusiastic, and I'm starting to agree.

I think Shifty had his on a dyno at awesome, and his graph can be found on their site.

Hopefully will know more about the car tomorrow, will post as soon as I know. Just got to hope its a warranty job. If not, VT5 maybe?? :D:rofl:

I am only just down the road in Scarborough mate if you want car setting to standard for warranty

Whats the verdict then H?

I've read on here several times that the max boost for the standard turbo is 1.6bar (iirc) so if said map is producing 2bar then that'll be why the tubo's keep blowing.....

Never mind driving to Peterborough Harry. Lets dig deeper, and see what we can find about other blown turbo's. ;) I'll pass the info on to my "legal" department.

Right......

I'm very sorry to say that the turbo is infact F*CKED.

Dealer has said at least

Insurance job then?

Sorry to hear that Harry
