V-Power

Featured Replies

i tried a bit of this the other, only a tenner or so and didn't notice any difference.

a couple days ago however i was totally empty so decided to give a full tank of it a go.

what can i say other than a complete load of crap, terrible fuel. the car is running like a pig on the stuff, jerky, unresponsive and generally a bit crap. forget it shell i'm gonna stick with Tesco for all future fuel needs thanks :thumbdwn:

i can't wait to get this crap out of my car, what a waste of

You wouldn't notice any improvements from one tank full (they say). You could have had a bad batch though.

But on the other hand, vpower is nothing but a new name for optimax, so everything that applies to that, applies to vpower

I think you need to give it more than one tankful before you pass such judgement. There are many on here, me included that swear by the stuff and won't use anything else. As far as I'm concerned it's terrific

I am a firm advocate of it too.

As Q says I would imagine it'll take a few tanks to flush through and adapt.

Hi Bengie

I found the opposite. The MR2 loves the stuff and the difference (to Tesco 99 which it used to favour) was immediate. So obvious was the difference that the missus noticed it from the passenger seat and commented within a minute or two of filling up and she had no idea that the fuel was any different.

V-Power is not the same as Optimax if the MR2 is a useful guide. In the '2 Optimax gave poor throttle response and lacked both mid and top end power. The V-Power stuff really runs very well. I suspect that some fuels suit some cars better than others. Also, if the ECU cannot make full use of the higher knock resistance, that is to say if the knock sensing wont allow enough ignition advance, then the fuel will give lower performance than standard. The '2s engine management is suited to Japanese supply which I think is 101 / 102RON. I know Tesco 99 is 99RON, but the V-Power may well have better knock resistance under heavier loads as the RON is a base figure that does not cover the dynamic properties that higher loads and temperatures bring.

The ECU wont adapt that quickly to the new Octane rating.

Reset the adaption process.

Clear all engine fault codes (even if there ar enone). Apparently this restarts the adaption.

Your experience of V Power sounds a lot like when I put Tesco 99 in my Octavia (remapped for 95 RON)

Another thumbs up here for V-Power, it's all I use having previously used tesco 99 for a while.

Yet another thumbs up for V-Power.

tbh it sounds you got a bank tank of it. is the garage normally busy? Thanks usually a good way to tell if the V-Power is fresh.

Also with mine i did 4 tanks for Sainsburys Super then 3 tanks off Optimax to get it up to speed and now id never go back to normal as i get more out the tank in performace and MPG

I filled up with Optimax for a couple of months and it was poo, so switched to Sainsbury's high octane and there was a noticable difference, and a decrease in price.

Then discovered Tesco 99 and that was even better. A lot of performance for the price. TBH, I am reluctant to try V Power as Optimax was nowt but snake oil to me....

As said above, Optimax was no good in the MR2 (Or the Omega for that matter) but V Power is different to Optimax, so may or may not suit your car. Only way to know it to try it out.

no way am i wasting another £50 on that load of rubbish, the car has definitly lost mid range punch and top end power also it keeps hesitating and stuttering. it did this within 10 mins of leaving the petrol station.

the place i got it from is a busy place with people cueing almost constantly till 6pm then its still fairly busy.

tesco all the way for me, cheaper, better and i get clubcard points. big :thumbdwn: to v-power

Ive been running v-power for a month or so and i must admit it feels the same as optimax.Ive only ran car on optimax since i bought it 18 months ago,so i thoght i would notice even a slight difference in power delivery.Might just be me:rofl:
