Factory Sat Nav

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a couple of questions regarding sat nav options for my octy vrs, When it comes back from the bodyshop!!! I'm looking at getting either the factory fit model mfd or the pioneer avic system, which is best? I like factory unit as it will match the interior display, but

# Can you listen to music while using the sat nav?

# Which model mfd do i use?

# Is it capable of using my boot changer?

# Is it postcode search?

# Do i need anything else for the fitting?

I have searched but not all my questions were answered, please help

Thanks for your quick response, Sorry if i sound a little stupid, when you say from the multichanger, can i use the factory fit one or do i need a different one, Also can i listen to the radio? I see there are different versions of the mfd, which is the best choice?? cheffie

You will need an MFD (assuming you have a Mk1 Octy) rather than an MFD2.

Your standard Multichanger will be fine.

The latest version of the MFD is G AFAIK but I think D is more sought after if you want to watch TV or Video.

Thanks vrstu, Yes mk1 octy vrs. So mfd (d) is the one then, Yes would like to watch dvd.. I've seen some on ebay?? seem to come from europe, I take it these will not come with the outercage or fitting instuctions?? Are they easy to fit?? Ive also read i'll need VAG.com is this so? But i am also considering the pioneer Avic, which is best?? Sorry for so many questions.. Regards cheffie.

I'm no expert at all mate i'm afraid. I have done a couple of MFD2's over the last week or so and I have an MFD G to put in my dad's Fabia when it arrives.

Looking in the parts catalogue I don't see any sign of any additional dash trims required.

There are a few 'safe' sellers listed on my octavia-vrs website.

We needed VAG-COM for the OctyII and I would think it likely that it would be helpful with the OctyI

Thanks stu, You have been a great help.

I've fitted these to my Octy and the Ibiza.

No cage or trim is required, neither is vagcom.

You need a GPS aerial and plug and play loom. Also the most recent nav disc for the country you are using the unit in is required.

The MFD doesn't have full postcode search just the first part and first number of the second part. Then you have to select a street name.

You can listen to the radio, CD changer or external source (with suitable interface) whilst using navigation.

Octy I MFD Coding

Controller 37 (Navigation)

Soft Code - 00001 for No telephone and No TMC

Soft Code - 00002 for No telephone and with TMC

Controller 56 (Radio)

Soft Code - 00403 for Four loudspeakers, No DSP, Remote Fed Antenna and CD Changer.

Other options are avalable.

Controller 17 (Instruments)

Will have a 5 digit softcode xxxxx

Add 16 to the first two digits, ie. 04xxx would become 20xxx

Standard Octy 1 vRS instrument cluster won't have the full height display so this will make no difference. Also you need to connect an additional 3 wires from the sat nav to the instrument cluster if you install a cluster that does have a full height display in order for it to work.

I still didn't need to do anything on the sat nav with vagcom though.

You don't 'need' to do any of them but to make it right and proper you should.

Same with the Octy II, MFD2 works without coding but throws three fault codes.

Yeah I agree but not having vagcom wouldn't stop you fitting it and it working and you also wouldn't know about the fault codes. ;)

There's no need, with the plug and play loom it's just that. Unplug the old radio and plug the sat nav in. It's very easy.

I didn't mean to frighten you off!!!

As Eddy says it should plug and play.

Is there a plug and play factory sat nav route for the Fabia?

If so who can I buy it from (Kufatec?)?

I've already replaced the factory radio (Symphony II) in my Audi RS4 with the OE DVD sat nav (RNS-E) and have VAG-COM. Wouild like to do the same in my wife's Fabia.

P.S. MUST keep the ability to play CD's, she can't be without her music! So would I need to add the under seat CD changer?

I am doing exactly that for my Dad, possibly this Friday Dava so I'll let you know how it goes.

We've got hold of an MFD and what they call the plug and play loom. Also got a CD changer and install kit for under the seat.

You won't regret it. I've got one in my Fabia vRS and it works really well (even makes the OEM speaskers sound better). The MFD unit's postcode search won't allow you to enter a full postcode, so it only does half a job, which put me off.

I put a shelf in the underseat stowage box and housed all the bits and pieces under the passenger seat. Professional installation is probably a good idea unless you are used to installing something that complex.
