IE7 - ClearType.... I now have a headache.

Featured Replies

Installed IE7 30mins ago, went through the cleartype settings and I now have a headache.

Its made all the text in outlook and IE look very very slightly out of focus. The current setting seem to be the best of a bad bunch.

Dell digital monitor connected through a DVI socket to an appropriate graphics card.

Anyone else suffering ?

Denis went through this the other day - why can't they just use fonts like any other application?

I've now downloaded a ClearType tool that runs via control panel. There is a troubleshooting guide that claims my monitor is not in its naitive resolution - but it is

I've just turned cleartype off and its still on

What happens if you look at the display properties for your monitor, (right click on desktop, properties). the slider on the resolution tab needs to all the way to the right to be using your monitors native resolution.

TBH it does sound like your monitor is not at the native resolution.

It is set to its native resolution - the slider is all the way to the right and the numbers match the native res given on the Dell website.

Is it worth trying the RGB cable rather than the DVI ?

You can try, but DVI should give the best results.

Tried it but its still the same :(

Updated the drivers for screen and card too :(

Some people just dont get on with cleartype. i personally prefer it over any jaggid fonts.

Dave

try the cleartype tuner powertoy. if that doesn't help, turn off CT...

If you're trying to turn off ClearType in IE7 only then go to Tools > Internet Options. Click the Advanced tab. Scroll down the list to heading Multimedia, under hear clear the checkbox next to Always use ClearType for HTML. Click Ok. Close IE7, reopen it and hey presto- no clear type or funny eyes!

By the way this setting is independant to the OS, so changing Windows to not use ClearType will have no effect on IE7.
