Fuel additive

Featured Replies

Eyup lads, does anyone recommend millers diesel power plus additive for my vrs, ive heard its one of the best?

AFAIK using any additives in a pd engine is a big no no.

Power plus is fantastic stuff, however skoda UK say don't use it.

Millers also say is isn't (or wasn't last i looked) suitable for the PD engines.

Skoda UK say a lot of things I don't agree with. :D Particularly their opinions toward giving advice to Skoda owners by mechanics.

On the additive thing, they can also get to f***. I use power plus in my pd130 and its given me great economy gains which more than pay for each bottle I buy. It also seems to keep it running quite nicely. I won't be stopping adding it any time soon, that's for sure.

I've used Milers Diesel Plus for six years in various diesel cars and it is great (as well as their oils and octane plus for petrol). I'd thoroughly recommed it, however I haven't got a vRS Furby so can't comment on the sutability for the VAG PD engine.

Millers also say is isn't (or wasn't last i looked) suitable for the PD engines.

This is what would worry me more than Skoda's general advice! Presumably there's sound reasoning behind this, or is this specifically for Euro IV compliant engines?

Works a treat in my TDCI though

Chris

Diesel Power Plus is not to be used in Euro4 compliant engines. They are working on a new product for use in Euro4 engined cars called something like 'Diesel Sport 4'...

I do use Miller's Oils as well. A fresh batch of XFE-PD goes in my car every 7,000 miles. Runs sweet as a nut on it too.

I've used the millers, but not really noticed a difference ('05 vRS pre- euroIV car) , the best addative I found was bryan's bio deisel, less smoke, and quieter running.... skoda say you can use 5% bio deisel without modification.... I also tend to run it exclusively on BP ultimate, 'cause thats my local station....

So a few different opinions, the question is what possible damage could it cause by testing it?

Could possibly cause wear to your PD injectors or maybe cause funny running with the engine set up to be euro 4. Nobody knows, but millers must have a reason to say not for PD rather than just not for EU4 cars.

Personally if you are in warrenty I wouldn't touch the stuff. You could always call millers and ask them.

Shell Derv Extra and BP ultimate, have pretty much the same addative package in it anyway, and infact i found adding power plus to normal fuel was excellent, but adding it to shell extra made things a bit poorer.

Do you reckon I can get away with some additive in my Petrol 1.4 Furby engine?

My dad tried Red x in his Mondeo and it worked ok, so Im just wondering if I should do it with my car.

Do you reckon I can get away with some additive in my Petrol 1.4 Furby engine?

The Skoda manual will advise against the use of additives - however, some dealers put a fuel additive in as part of servicing. Should be fine in the 1.4 petrol, not sure if you'll notice any effects but it won't do any harm...

Rob.

I have a 1.4mpi and over to Millers again use their 'Octane Plus'. It adds 2 octane points to whatever fuel you use so ordinary 97 octane unleaded becomes 99 octane 'super'. Or 99 octane Shell V-power becomes 101 octane which is almost 'race fuel level'.

Higher octane helps give a better 'bang' - better 'bang' = more power.

Having said this though, adding Octane plus to V-power has a questionable benefit to a standard engine as the ECU map for the ignition timing is probably not advanced enough to reap the reward. If you have had your ECU remaped and the ignition advanced, then, you will get a benefit. OK?

Brilliant, cheers!

wether petrol or diesel, i always put a dose of Forte' fuel system additive into the tank about a week before i get an MOT done. Haven't had an emissions failure yet :)

and i know its more to do with the cat, but if part of it has been poisoned or damaged, this can be just the little extra helping hand your engine needs to keep its emissions down for a few months.

I use Lucasoil fuel additive £6 every few tank fulls and always get better fuel mileage about 40 miles a tank xtra sometimes more and is safe in PD or any other petrol/diesel engines.

Ideal for MOT time aswell
