scuttle panel - not sitting flush with windscreen

Featured Replies

Hi,

a few months ago I had my windscreen replaced, and I noticed recently that there is a gap of 3 or 4mm between the screen and one particular part of the scuttle panel.

This means that there is a gap down which rainwater can run, behind the scuttle panel.

The gap is about 1/3 of the way across the screen, on the passenger side, so I don't think it's above the pollen filter, but I am concerned that water might run under the panel and cause problems in the engine bay?

Am I worrying about nothing or should I call Autoglass back out (I think they warranty their work for a year) and get them to put the scuttle panel back so it's flush. I am surprised I didn't notice a gap at the time though...

Thanks,

Ben

The area behind the scuttle panel will always get damp when it rains or when the car is washed. Panel is there to limit the amount of water which can get in so I would get it sorted sooner rather than later to eliminate the risk of corrosion/water ingress. Have you tried pushing the offending area down? It clips on along the bottom edge of the screen and it may be possible to just push it down to click it back into position. If it doesn't clip down then it's probably best to remove it all together and re-fit it, checking that there's nothing in the way. It's a 5 minute job to remove it, IF the wiper arms feel like coming off easily.

I'll try and have a proper look over the weekend. I have a feeling that the reason it's sticking up is because of excess screen glue being used when the guy put the screen in - it may have left a lump that is preventing the panel from sitting flush.

Or the reason could be that it's unclipped itself and as you say, it might be happy to clip back (for a while :))

Thanks,

Ben

Cool - a bit more of a smack and it popped right back in to place.

Took the opportunity to run a cocktail stick along the edge, under the rubber seal and clean out loads of manky old leaves, etc.

Cheers,

Ben

Glad you got it sorted :D

Have only just seen this thread, but I was goign to say a quick thump should get it back into place. I have become quite good at getting my scuttle panel off now, as I had to run a cable in for my radar/laser detector in last weekend....
