What do people think of drilled discs

Featured Replies

Im looking to get some uprated discs all round as mine are f***ed, i like the look of drilled discs, but have herd mixed reviews, i wont be doing any track days for a while, so they wont be under that much heavy use, i get trade discount from gsf who do them for bout 170 all round, and ill get them cheaper then that, not much more then the standard discs, i think they are zimmerman which are ok, i do like grooved aswell, and there are some on ebay for 180 plus delivery all round, but hear these are slightly noisier then drilled, comments appreciated

I would avoid drilled disks if the drilling goes right through; I've seen a fair few where they have cracked out from the holes. Some are 'spotted' with little dimples which seem safer to me. I had some which were grooved and spotted and they were very good but they ate pads for fun! The noise is not an offensive one.

Go for Tarox G88's, these are grooved, not drilled and with Tarox fast road pads and Silkolene 2000 ProRace brake fluid, really do stop the car.

From looking about the internet, I've gathered that most people are of the opinion that grooved (plus minus dimples) not drilled are the way to go. Drilling holes causes temperature change induced stresses around the edges which can warp or crack the plate. Almost all modern discs are centre ventilated...

Any disc mods scrub off pads which drops their life expectancy. Personally I'd go with uprated pads and fluid and see if that made me happy.

I'm very happy with the 312mm's I have with standard pads and fluid. May look at the uprated pads and fluid myself but as they are now they certainly stop the car sharpish!

Hi,

I have just been through this situation myself, so spent some time researching and deliberating what to go for.

In the end the drilled discs were eliminated due to the problems highlighted above with cracking etc.

I decided to go for grooved discs front and rear, but couldn't see the point in spending the prices some places charge for what I use the car for.

Ended up getting a full set off flea-bay for

Euro car parts do ATE discs for less than
