hissing noise and sudden loss of power

Featured Replies

when under hard acceleration there is a very loud hissing noise and then sudden loss of power.could this be the dump valve on way out?

what engine is it?

If a turbo, could a boost pipe have come undone?

could a boost pipe have come undone?

:iagree:

definitly a leak on the inlet side of things, if its a 1.8T then check the top bend coming out of the turbo and the joint between teh metal downpipe and the rubber pipe that joins to the flat pipe behind the offside front wheel, this is a nightmare for coming undone. if its a 1.9tdi then sorry but i have no idea :)

best of luck.

quite possibly 4 posts late there my friend :)

That will teach me to open a load of pages in tabs then reply then realise lots of people have posted before me.

It could be a boost leak.

So what we are saying is that we think there might be a boost leak ;)

Or next doors "Evil One"* might be stuck under the bonnet.

Also worth checking the hose that goes from the intercooler to the turbo. in the driver's side front wheel arch you'll find a flat metal pipe. Connected to the opt of this is a large diameter tube with a jubilee clip fixing - check that.

it ain't big and it ain't clever phil just like little phil :D

thanks for the replies ive been away for the last couple of days,i think it is a boost hose .its coming from the side that the intercooler is mounted.

its more than likely to be the short pipe between teh flat pipe behind the wheel and the vertical metal one then. bit of a pig to get to tbh.

if you have access to ramps this will make a much much easier job :)
