Screen De-mister not demisting

Featured Replies

Does anyone have a problem with the screen de-mist on a Oct VRS. Mine takes an age to de- mist and only appears to come from a little vent right in the centre of the dash. Bit of a bugger trying to drive looking through a little hole of Demisted screen.Due to the time of year thought someone may be able to help.:) Also this morning when i started up i had a temperature symbol come up on the dash and an audible tone for about 3 seconds:eek: . Looked in the handbook which states i am low on coolant. Coolant checked and all fine. Is it a frost warning?

Tell me about it!!

Its quite awful really, unsure if its best on LO or HI... LO seems to activate the AC which *seems* to make it clear quicker...

The alternative is to keep a demister pad handy but due to the amount of condensation they usually end up soaking wet and causing dried streak/water marks!

What to do what to do....

Glad im not the only one. Perhaps i will drive the wifes micra to work in the early mornings:mad:

I normally pop my air con on and it clears pretty quickly. Try to ensure the flow is air is not directed elsewhere around the cabin why trying to clear the screen. Infact thinking about it, my fan speed is normally only about 2 or 3 bars (climatronic)

For intensive demisting, the Owner's Manual recommends pressing the 'defrosting windshield' button - which in turn over-rides ECON mode if selected - then setting blower speed to maximum and temperature to HI.

with regards to your warning tones you either need a drop more water in the bottle or you need a new bottle it's diy job changing the bottle

if you need to more ost back

The warning will be due to the integral sensor in the coolant expansion tank (not a seperate part), its a common fault that happens during cold contitions. The good news is that the sensor and coolant expansion tank is easy to change and cheap to replace it costs about 8.50 + vat. I have had the problem on both my Octavia Rs last year and just recently my Octavia 1.8TDI. Both cases solved as detailed part no is IJ0 121 403B If ding your self top up with correct G18 coolant obtainable from your Skoda dealer. part is common to VW also so you can obtain from a VW dealer also

correct on all counts mate

Mine did the coolant thing today too. Will order a new tank tomorrow!

I had the coolant warning warning noise the weekend before last... It scared the whatsit out of me!

Called the dealer when I got to work and they told me to add a small amount of water to bring level up a touch (as the anti-freeze level would still be fine) and its been ok since.

I find that I need to use the climate control to demist asap but then stick it on econ after to keepthe old petrol consumption down.

i did read that with cliamt control that you should also put it into recirulation mode so that it keeps heating the same air instead of the cold from outside

Using recirc mode below 4c will make the car steam up even quicker. on my old vRS I just pressed the windscreen defrost button on the climate control. Seemed to work quiet well.
