Warranty on approved car older than 3 years

Featured Replies

My Octy was bought as an approved used car, but was older than 3 years so the 1 year warrenty, was a 3rd party one supplied by the dealer FOC. Are these sort of warrentys valid in different dealerships, or do I have to go back to the orginal dealer ?

I have play in my stearing by all accounts after 4 months :(

I expect if it was supplied FOC by the dealer when it will only cover the bare minimum of things. Normally they try and encourage you to upgrade to silver or gold cover....

Do you have a booklet that came with the warranty - as that give give you contact details for who you need to speak to?

Those "warranties" are usually "failure insurance policies" when you read the actual Ts&Cs. Such being the case, they try to avoid covering anything that could be classed as "wear and tear", such as steering and clutches. What sort of milage has the car done?

I had all kinds of grief getting a well known third party provider to pay out on an obviously covered part.

If you cant get the car back to the providing dealer, its usually the case but not always that you must pay for the repairs yourself then try and claim back. This is not always the case, and sometimes you need to get approval before getting the repairs done.

hi there

most warranties supplied from outside a main skoda dealer will only pay 25.00 an hour labour but will pay in full for any parts and then the remainder of the labour is unfotunatley down to you - i would telephone the warranty company and ask though as some steering components may not be covered

hope this helped

OK, thanks all. It looks like it wont be covered, I need to find the policy though. Car is on 50k now, was sold on 40k.

Car was also supplied with a FUBAR spare which I've only just noticed. Yes I should have checked it before, but still!

Actually they will pay in full at any garage, providing the garage can prove its not general wear and tear.

Hmm...!
