312mm conversion/wheels question?

Featured Replies

has anybody who had done the 312mm front brake conversion used any different aftermarket wheels??

i've looked at some different wheel deisgns and it seems that by the looks of it they wont fit into some aftermarket wheels becuase of the shape of the wheel 'spokes'

so if anybody has done it can you tell me what make, model, size, offset your wheel is please?

I found standard Mk4 GTI 16" alloys fitted..... just. ;) Never used any other aftermarket ones. My current 17" evolos have plenty of clearance. 7.5J ET38.

I've got 17" x 7" ET38 Team Dynamics Pro 2 wheels over 312 mm brakes. They show off the calipers nicely.

(<<<<<)

I've got 17's off a audi TT which seem fine.

Have a llok at the wheel archive that is here, I'm sure there is a few members that have the 312's that have posted pictures.

i've been thinking about going with a set of 16" steelies

Anything that fits an Octavia vRS will be fine.

yes, all of the oe 16" wheels are ok, but i was thinking more about aftermarket wheels, i do also very much like the bbs splits that the mk4 golf/bora had

I have seen plenty of Octavia vRS's with aftermarket wheels, thats what I meant.

Borrow a Fab vRS spare to try, pretty sure they fit.

16" BBS Splitties (RXII) off the MK4 Golf DO NOT FIT over 312's... :(

I went to buy a set just after fitting the brakes and I'm glad I spent the time trying one of the wheels on for size before paying for them... The caliper left green paint on the inside of the wheel when I tried turning the wheel round!

Are your brakes already fitted, if yes then most suppliers will do a single wheel on sale or return basis.

Best bet is to go to a local stockist & try a wheel, then just happen to have the best internet price you can find with you & see if they will price match !

South Coast wheels in Soton have a good selection although prices are initially highish, Also try Micheldever tyres & Meritytre in Andover for prices.

If you really want a specific wheel then customised carriers & discs can sometimes be used to fit the brakes into the wheel , thats how you can get 335x32 discs with Ap 4 pots into 17" wheels ;) ;) ;) But its an expensive option.

Tip, Woolfrace wheels are cheap & the quality reflects the price, I think they are made of plasticine as they buckle far tooooooooooo easily.

I went for Cesam wheels in the end because they are well priced & exceptionally strong

Cesam Sport Alloy Wheels If you like any of these PM me as I have a contact at another supplier

AH thankyou for that! i almost bought a set the other day, i would have through they would fit becuase they are fitted to the golf turbo.

If you really want them and they only just touch the caliper why not use some 3mm or 5mm spacers....

They don't touch the spokes, they touch on the inside of the wheel, so much so that it's difficult to even turn the wheel round. Nothing spacers would fix :(

16" Montral wheels will fit no problem, if you look at the design on the OEM wheels the inner rim is slighly recessed to allow for the brake fitment. Standard GTI 150 etc only have the same 288mm set up as the Fabia vRS hence why the BBS fitted them.

Thanks

Steve

They also wont fit the 16" ibiza sport rims... spacers required
