In fairness to the BMW forum thread, there were a lot of replies casting Skoda in a positive light :)

True....but like I commented earlier it's the majority that still have that BMW mentality. I did note that most of those casting positive comments were from Europe where, I guess, Skoda has a better reputation?

The cars are great especially the M sport ones.

But how did BMW drivers get this reputation for aloofness/I'm better than you etc?

Well, when you throw money at an over-priced car, you need to find some way to justify it ;)

Unfortunately, they are at it again.

'Skoda has the worst V.A.G. engines.

After the engines are built they make a performance-test. The best ones go to Audi, then VW, Seat and Skoda gets the worst.'

Can you honestly imagine in this big VAG engine factory, somewhere hidden in the forests of Germany, that after the 20 squillion engines are built Deiter and Hans then line them all up in front of a big bench and test each one and say 'Zees von ist a bit crappy, vee vill give it to Skoda...next!'

Come on guys, you can do better than that!

Funny how Skoda got the 180 Bhp 1.8T before VW did then, don't ya think? ;)

 That is hilarious I hope he posted that then thought hang on that is a bit stupid of me really best I hit myself over the head with a battenburg cake

!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT A PLANTPOT!!!!!!!!

I see the original muppet (who was "racing" a green Skoda...funny, i never saw a green RS) has now tried to squirm out of it. hahaha

Grow up boys, nice cars those M5's but learn a bit of humility and you might get some of the respect you so clearly crave ;)

I love the M5, it's an excellent car with a top engine, luxurious trim, but an unfortunate image. Also, a three year old one would set me back almost twice as much as my current car, and I can barely afford that! Also, you never hear of Octavias being broken into and having the seats stolen.

I reckon for less than the price of a 3 year old M5, you could buy and tune an Octavia that would be faster.

My hand-picked VW reject 1.8T engine delivered 165bhp when checked on a rolling road rather than the 150bhp advertised for it by Skoda. I wonder what one of the better ones off the same production line would have delivered?

A thought...maybe Skoda get the engines which are outside a certain tolerance for power output, ie the better ones... ;)

:agree:

one thing thats always puzzled me....

its a bit like the chicken or the egg......

do only arrogant drivers buy them.......

or are they normal drivers before, then get corrupted by the car

several of them sound just like brother in law - comes out with the same old sad and out of date comments

Working on that theory' date=' we [b']could[/b] mention that certain senior members of the BMW heirarchy had connections with some very unsavoury characters from Germany's past, but we wouldnt do that, would we ? ;)

Huck owned a Beemer for a while and he's a top bloke. Course, he sold it to buy another Skoda, but that's beside the point :D

I'll agree with him that they are slower (in theory and not the vRS), but that is because of the gear ratio's that skoda use to give a more economical drive, even a M5 owner should know that as it's basic engine theory.

I've been skirting around this one, and I'll finally say my piece, as I've actually driven an M5 -though only 80 miles on the motorway. I was out with one of our directors, and he needed to make some phone calls, so I drove.

What can I say? Incredibly impressive. As an engineer, I can appreciate the developement that's gone into the engine -viciously powerful, and incredibly smooth.

On the other hand, it's got those badges on the outside! "M5" and "BMW", both of which mean that every other road user immediately hates you.

Like I say, impressive, but I wouldn't have one, even if I could afford it! He's now got rid of the car for a new M3, as even on his salary, £19,000 a year company car tax was a bit much....

:eyepop: :bigshock:

It's not the car, with me at least it's the attitude of some of the drivers

  • 1 month later...

Ref that M5 forum, I have registered. Awaiting activiation too.

Apparently 400bhp is alot for an M5 ?!

And that blows all Skodas away. (See any BMWs winning Paris-Dakar ?)

Well poo rolls downhill and we Supras eat M5s, then spit them out because they are dull cars.

Which I will remind the M5 owner who slagged off the Skoda, when I get on the forum.

400Bhp is standard for an M5 ;)

Doesnt matter anyway, that site proves what type of people drive them.

We Skoda owners (and Briskoda members in general) exist on a higher plain. :D

Well if the car falls appart at Bruntingthorpe I may just be on a higher plain too !

Hopefully a friend of mine has offered to give it a good tune before we bimble up there to meet you all :)

  • 4 weeks later...

they might have 400bhp but that only gets em 155(limited) and a 5 sec 0-60

get yourself a 4x4 and spend 6k on it and you are going faster than "the ultimate driving machine" having spent less than half the money(£59k).

so pah to bm's, they are nice but v over priced me thinks
