I was only joking, honest. SWMBO drives a BMW!

I know, very poor taste, didn't have my coffee before posting - sorry if offense was taken.....

roundabout left lane straight on.....big line of traffic waiting to go straight on...2 bmw drivers come flying up the right lane....I set off to go straight across the roundabout, bmw drivers decide to floor it up the inside and beat me across to the other side to go straight on...both cut me up! I wonder why they get such a bad name ...I wonder!

Family members and friends of mine have BMW's and they certainly dont drive like that.

A certain perspective please Chris ;)

I never said ALL just most ;)

there car was bigger than mine so I was the christian driver that I normally am

If i knew they were both going straight on in the right turn only lane I would have made sure I got to the other side before them both.

what suprised me was that my girlfriend who does not have a harsh word to say about people and does not really have a stereotypical view on people did say she noticed BMW drivers were "rude" drivers

I'm sure some BMW are nice people just some of BMW drivers driving is less than desireable.

TBH, I find when someone is driving aggressively and cutting people up, it is almost always a person in a 3 series BMW or some random 4 wheel drive thing. I can imagine that not all drivers of these vehicles are nobs, but I only ever see really stupid aggressive driving from people in these two types of vehicles, it is rare that any other type of car is involved. Some stereotypes do have a large element of reality and this is one of them. This is why a BMW is so expensive to insure relative to value/performance etc, in other words they are rather (statistically) likely to end up embedded in a lampost, wall or other car.

However this is useful, as when I see them I simply stay out of their way, it's a bit like there's a huge banner on the roof saying "I'm going to do something really stupid". Handy.

My observations have been that there are 2 types of BMW drivers, those who appreciate the quality of the enginering, rwd, performance etc... and those who have brought one for the badge i.e. as a fashion accessory........ more often than not, it is those that fall in to the second catagory that like to do the cutting up, tailgateing, non use of indicators etc... as they think they are superior to all other road users due to the blue and white badge on the bonnet.

The sacry thing is driving one you get treated badly by other road users. About a year ago, someone rear-ended my A3, so i had a BMW 120 hire car. No-one lets you out, I had people honkiing me because they *expected* me to pull over an island and I didn't, and lots of boy racers trying to get me to race them. I was *very* glad to get the A3 back, especially at 28mpg.

I've experienced that when I've had to use the 1 series at work - the motorists around you drive as if you've personally offended them in some way. I don't think it's a jealousy thing either as when I used the Celica regularly I was treat with the same level of courtesy as any other car.

I think because there's a stigma you just notice the bad ones more TBH. I do a lot of miles and see a lot of bad drivers but you remember the BMW drivers because they fit the preconceived stereotype.

No, I don't think so either. It was amazing to get back in the A3 (a bit older, but an equivalent 'class'), and not have the attitude.

The average standard of driving of BMW owners is obviously lower than that of any other make. Everyone knows this, and it is therefore obvious that anyone who buys one is making a deliberate statement about how they want to be regarded by other road users. Of course there are crap drivers of all sorts of cars, but BMW attract the rude and incompetent.

Chris Newall you are an idiot.

:iagree:

You are an idiot. :)

Of course no one buys a BMW because they are genuinely a good car

:rofl::rofl: @ this thread. I agree with Walkie

Slating BMW's on a Skoda forum............envy? ;)

I fully expect my dad to buy a BMW one day he refuses to use indicators 50% of the time, sits in the outside lane on the motorway and drives up peoples arses for no particular reason. Currently drives a Mitsubishi Pajero, I expect him to graduate to a BMW when he finally takes on the belief that he owns the road.

He would fit my stereotypical view of BMW drivers as being those whos mechanical aptitude is limited to changeing a wheel at a push, and for all their talk about traction and drivetrain have never driven a car sideways in their life.

As for BMW's being "good" cars, certainly my experience of driving them showed them to be perhaps "average" I was certainly unimpressed by the 520se I drove -

I actually found my TDCI Mondeo sportier and better quality on the interior :D. They may be "good" in as much as they arent "bad" cars but the price in no way to me reflected any superiority in the drive or build.

Do people eally buy a 318i because its a "good" car?? an M3 maybe a good car, Ive not driven one to know, but certainly the more common BMW's on the road are average at best, the only thing going for them might be the RWD layout, but how many of the owners actually make use of that on a regular basis? certainly 520se didnt seem to be any better a drive for the RWD layout.

Then of course theres the unfortunate council house estate bmw driver, who thinks his £2000 10 year old beamer is still a prestige vehicle....

If it was just for me and I could afford it, I know I'd prefer a Bee Emm 3 Series. As it is, family practicality and price are deciding factors, so I have my Skoda...

This thread is nuts.

Badge stereotyping on a Skoda site..........how very contradictive!!

I see myself as a well mannered and considerate road user, are some of you suggesting that if I buy a BMW all that would change?

IMHO, this anti BMW attitude is nonsense mixed with a little envy.

Lance

IMHO:

- BMW make good and nice cars that drive well.

- A BMW isn't cheap, and you can buy 2 "other cars" for the price of a BMWwith some options.

- BMWs (mainly the 1 & 3 series) seem to attract a class of a$$hole, but tbh these tend to drive the older ones and are trying to make out they are something special.

- BMWs have more a$$holes due to this, not because people buy them to show they are an a$$.

Anyway, if people thought skoda were the cool sporty car, then you would get a lot of those annoying people driving them. Not wanting to get flamed, but have you seen how many furball VRS drivers have their sides and fogs on all the time?

Couldn't agree more:) ...having gone through loads of different marques and gone from a VRS Fabia to a 330Ci my standard of driving certainly hasn't changed..just my fuel bills have gone up slightly;)

....

Some people buy 7p tins of beans from Aldi/Netto etc, and say they are "just as good as Hienz/HP beans".

Some folks buy Skoda's because they offer value for money, som buy them because they have no interest in cars, and some of the lesser models perform getting from A to B reliably, and cheaply. Some a$$holes drive Skoda's - take me for example. :D

BMW's are good cars, base models are obviously not that great if you like toys and power etc, but they last well. Some people buy them as a status symbol, some because they want a good car.

Clearly taste/opinions differ, or the world would be a very dull place.

Anyway, how many of these daft jealousy inspired threads are in the archives on this site now?

Dunno but they do get funny for a bit then very dull.

Very well said!:handshke:
