B.M.W drivers !

Featured Replies

Why would people be jealous of BMW's, I doubt theres many people on this site who COULDNT have a bmw if they wanted one?? A quick scan of the freeads shows a selection of BMWs to be had for under £300 and then anyone can be the envy of the council estate.

I could buy a BMW for the same money as a Skoda estelle :D. But I would still feel more self conscious driving the BMW. Realising people would be assuming that Im someone who would feel they are just jealous, yuck.

Please note theres not so many "jealousy" threads here about rolls-royce, who are surely a fair way further up the prestige "ladder" than the BMW. Why would all the jealousy be aimed at the lower levels of prestige ownership instead of at the upper end? Why BMW over Maseratti, Why BMW over Jaguar? Why dont you hear people say all ferrari drivers are "soloists".

Certainly I know good people who drive BMW's, but I dont notice a disprortionate number of times that indicators arent used on the roads its a BMW. Theres certainly a buzz amongst certain types about the brand, types of people I have no jealousy of whatsoever. BMW is a brand that is known to attract asshats, that doesnt mean all bmw drivers are like that.

I applaud those of you who feel man enough to drive a car where you know half the world rolls their eyes when you pass (even if it is entirely undeserved), unless of course you do genuinely think they are jealous of you.....

Of course IVe never been a "keeping up with the Jones's" kind of guy and never understood that mindset either.

A lot of idiots drive BMWs.

Not all BMW drivers are idiots.

Chris Newall you are an idiot.

thanks

I have a degree in it ! :D

Am I not allowed to state my opinions in a forum based on my experience? and i'm not taring every BMW driver with the same brush

who is jealous? if I told you they were a C reg 3 series are you saying i'm jealous  think not my friend.

plus there are soo many people that give BMW drivers the same stereotype nowadays are they idiots too?

If I was jealous why would I not choose to stereotype ferrari drivers? or Mercedes drivers? or Audi drivers? or Octavia driver? or VW drivers? Porchse drivers?

That would be all of us Skoda owners, then... :D

This indicator thing that keeps coming up - I've *never* noticed this to any extent. It's certainly not something that's warranted me keeping score of guilty marques.

My dad used to have a BMW. I hated it

I like BM's on the whole though, lots of them are very sexy cars and the ring taxi is uber! and that M3 CSL in the museum.....

I don't particularly aspire to own one though, no more or less than any other car. Personally I'd rather have an RS4 wub.gif

At the end of the day its a car ffs. Why does it matter? It's a lump of metal that gets you from A-B at whatever speed the engine is made for. You buy one according to what you want/need/like at the time. I actually nearly ended up buying a BMW but I got my fabbie instead :)

To me, a person is or isn't a d*ck dependant on their personality. If they happen to own a beemer at the same time then so be it

I do a very high mileage, BMW drivers are no worse (or better in fact) than any other drivers, I've been cut up by just as many Skoda/Ford/Vauxhall drivers as I have by BMW drivers.

Like it or not, a BMW IS an aspirational marque, sadly it seems that success breeds animosity, resentment and contempt that results in people finding ways of 'bringing them down a peg' and hence the old stereotype of the BMW driver.

Nine times out of ten jelousy is main factor, or else why would you single out a particular brand?

And bringing the old 'C' reg BMW into the equasion is hardly relavant, how many 'C' reg Skodas do you see? this just goes further to prove that a BMW is a good product, and will probably outlast most other makes.

heh! good to see the e36, 46 and 90 boys doing the bit to make us e30 drivers feel loved.

I agree. I drive a 3 series BMW and get hacked off at folks driving like tats behind the wheel of a BMW.

I try to be courteous when driving-good karma

Chris Newall you are an idiot.

Walkie drives a BMW...I rest my case. The stereotype seems to work well, but I'm sure he's not like this when he drives ;)

I'm very suprised at what low levels people will go to on this forum especially a long time member like walkie. :dissapointed:

this is simply people opinions please get over yourself..9 times out of 10 it's not jealously just using peoples experiences.

again why would most people single out BMW's why not audi? or mercedes?

All Audi and Merc drivers are idiots :thumbdwn:

Hope that balances things up :D:rofl:

Chris

Chris

I dont see a thread with this on! get one made!

you get the gist tho, it's not about jealousy, I can afford a BMW I don't want one, there maybe a time in my life I may want one though, its just experience that I use to come about my opinion so do many others.

I feel I have to repeat myself on here cos some people just dont't get it.

I'm sure also people don't think that as soon as you jump into a BMW and start drivng one that you become a nusiance to to other road users, don't be so daft. It takes atleast 2 month driving a BMW to stop using indicators and 4 months to be able to switch lanes whenever and wherever you like  (that was a joke people).

I'm sure alot of BMW drivers are nice people and drive A+ level so please again take a chill pill :)

TBH I've never noticed BMW drivers being any worse than certain others on the road ... in fact maybe because Canterbury has supposedly the largest concentration of Skoda drivers I see plenty of idiot Skoda drivers around and about. Having said that I do still think British roads do seem to be populated by idiots generally with appalling road discipline & awareness appearing in almost every journey I take :thumbdwn: .

With regard to the general anti-BMW thing ..... I don't like BMWs despite them being in many cases good cars and in some cases excellent cars. My main reasons are that BMW, for whatever reason, seem to attract the more bling / aspirational type of person and that turns me off them. I have always preferred the understated approach to life and that will always be reflected in my cars. If I was going to spend a decent amount of money on a car (which I could if I wasn't so tight and hate depreciation so much!) I would go for something under the style radar - i.e. big merc estate with plenty of go. Anyway we are all different - throughout our family we have plenty of banter about each other's cars (from 911 Carrera S, AMG Merc Estate, BMW 330d, Clio 192, Leon Cupra, Mondeo diesel, Focus, Beezer Sport and ... a Skoda :P ) and we will never fully agree as we all have different needs for cars and other issues (i.e image issues, "wants", what we want to spend out money on car/ house etc).

:iagree:

You are an idiot. :)

Of course no one buys a BMW because they are genuinely a good car

I don't think most do. BMW released a figure a few years back on the number of people who buy a BMW without even test driving it, it was something mad like 50 odd percent.

The people I know (except one) who have a BMW got it because their wives/girlfriends thought it would impress their mates, just some sad status thing, or found it helped to pull 17 year old girls outside Kentucky on a Saturday night.

The one exception bought a Z3 because he liked the handling. BMW make indeed may good cars, but they also attract a lot of idiot owners in comparison to any other car I know of (with the exception of the Saxo VTS).

I didn't test drive my MKII vRS. I sat in it, I knew it was reported as a better handling, faster car, I knew it was more suited to my needs (space, estate) and as I was so impressed with the MK1 I laid down the cash...

Most people don't explore the ultimate handling of their cars, and with a beemer you're on a winner there anyways. So long as it feels like a nice place behind the wheel and it fits your personal circumstances, you know it's gonna drive as good as anything else, what's the big deal...?

I think a lot of this is also because BMW used to be an exclusive brand, but now there are cheap cars wearing the BMW badge (1 series and 3 series compact >shudder<) so there are now a lot more BMW's on the road (outselling the classic rep mobile Ford Mondeo )

Chris

Walkie drives a BMW...

and he used to drive a Fabia vRS...talk about going from bad to worse, poor lad

:P

living literally across the road from the mini factory, i see ****loads of bimmers every journey and they're not really any worse (or better) than any other driver. generally speaking, a ****'s a **** no matter what car they're driving :)

this is simply people opinions please get over yourself..9 times out of 10 it's not jealously just using peoples experiences.

again why would most people single out BMW's why not audi? or mercedes?

Because most people are not capable of deciding things for themselves, they just jump on the bandwagon and join in with everyone else like sheep.

I dont even own a BMW so I dont have any personal feelings involved here, I just find that BMW drivers are no different than any others.

Errrrr, what does BMW stand for, and this is not aimed at any 1 person or persons.

My cousen calls it Black Mans Wi.......you get the jist of this

Spevie

Just interested in the names that could be derived from BMW...

Have fun...:D

Yes Chris, I used to drive a Fabia vRS as well, but suddenly my driving and I as a person changed the second I bought a BMW. It

What I will say is the preconception of a stereotypical driver didn’t have any play in my decision, and I think you’d have to be a sad, self-conscious individual to ignore a car because of that.

Kind of what I alluded to previously - why would anyone secure enough in themselves to have a Skoda on their drive worry about a different badge on their car - whatever the marque? As I said, this thread is mental.

:orb_lol:

I suggest you two settle this with a Duel

How about Handbags at dawn tomorrow

Any BMW dealer forecourt will do!!! ;)

Well, I have had 3 BMW's in the past and found them to be well engineered cars

that were not expensive to run. The last one was a Harge 2.8i and the indicators

worked just fine! I now drive an Octavia vRS combi and the indicators also work.

lol, I think bavarian motor works will do fine!:rofl:

I have had several bad experiences with badly driven BMWs and Skodas, it still would not put me off buying either brand.

I buy to suit my pocket and circumstances, not to pander to other peoples preconceptions.

BMW make very good cars, so do Skoda.

I simply cannot afford the BMW that I want :P , I can however afford the Skoda :D .

Plus I like surprising people occasionally!

Its not the cars that are the problem or to an extent the people, because we can all have a moments lack of concentration (nobody is perfect after all).

The preconception is the real problem because, we are then pigeon holing people and judging them unfairly on actions they may be about to take rather than what they actually do.
