Windscreen wipers problem

Featured Replies

Octavia 1.9 tdi L&K 52 plate. My windscreen wipers will not shut off. Think it might be stuck relay if I could find it. Any ideas ? if relay where can get one from ? is it easy to fit

relay is under the drivers wheel in a little thing usually held up by three screws.

It is a doddle to fit, but it could also be the park bit inside of the motor, or even a stalk.

I dont think its the stalk, because I pulled the power supply to it and they were still going. I assume you mean under steering wheel.

Yep, there is a bit you remove which id below the wheel and above the pedels

Think it is 3 screws.

My money would be on the motor, as mine's just done the same thing. 1998 1.8 Octavia, but it's probably got very similar components.

A new relay was under

And while you're in there (replacing the wiper motor), I'd strongly advise giving the wiper linkage a good lube. Pop the circlips off the top of the spindles, knock them out through the bottom of the housing and then a good dab of grease (I use copperslip). Those things seize sooooooooo easily.

:) Its worth changing the relay unit first as its easy to get at or prise the wiper relay box open and clean the contacts inside with some 'electrolube cleaning strips' to see if that fixes it, or like they say it could be the motor if its not telling the relay that its in the park position and cut off the current.

It's the big brown one. 620 or 602 I think. Pull it out and see if the wipers still work. If they do, then it wasn't the right one.
