Halfords Super Brilliance Bulbs

Featured Replies

Saw these in my local Halfords today with a "Buy One, Get One Free" offer.

They came out top in a recent AutoExpress test - here.

Im thinking I will probably get some - but has anyone tried any?

Yes on my Felly using the H4 bulbs, they are good :D get'em i will be tommorrow, and thanks for the heads up mate :D

Q

My brother in law was planning on getting some for his mk 1 octy. I shall enquire as to whether they're any good as he claims the current ones are rubbish

Surprised by the Osram results in the test  I've used H7's in my last two cars and think they're great compared to standard :D

Would be interested to hear what you think of the Halford's bulbs

Chris

If its the ones in the Gold packet then I use them, They are very noticably better than standard, and the light does not seem to reduce as quickly as other bulbs, I do alot of dark miles and must have had them in for 30,000 miles now.

Only great problem is that i find alot of oncoming motorists seem to think I have my full beam on and give me a flash, nothing adjusting them down a bit doesnt sort though

Fitting was

You may find that they wont fit them for you. They have a bible of cars they can fit various things to, and if yours isn't in it they wont entertain it.

I had some H4 a few years back and really didn't rate them, so moved to osram silverstars and now giving the vision plus a try.

I'm guessing the bulbs may have changed since then though.

Ive got Powerbulbs + 50's in mine at the moment.. nice bulbs and they do BOGOF on them (as well as free sidelights)

what difference would they make on octy II? i thought they had projector lights anyway

Well I bought some today, so I'll let you know if I manage to fit them!

Does that mean projector lights don't benefit from a bulb upgrade then?

Ive no idea... i just thought the beam-pattern would be irrelevent?

Thanks

Chris

I got the H4s for mine which were for high and low beam and they were fine, only is 1 bulb other than the spots and sidelights. But yeah you right the literature in there could do with some updating to say the least.

Changed them today and did a pictorial guide here

Not had chance to try them in the dark yet (and kids in bed now) but will report my thoughts in due course.

Nice one glad you got them, hope theyre to your approval! Do you mind me asking why you removed the entire unit,is the the MKII octy diffirent to the MK I,i have a MK I VRS and managed to change the bulbs easily without removing the whole unit?

well i've got projector type headlights in a VW......

bought the Halfrauds SB bulbs based on that Auto Express result and they where rubbish.

Far yellower and dimmer light than the Philips GT150 bulbs which where being replaced (as one had blown)

Since got rid of the halfrauds insulting bulbs and changed to the new Philips X-Power ones - almost like HID's.........cheaper for a set than buying 2 single Halfrauds ones too.

I found them much better than the standard bulbs but as they were on buy one get one free and i also got staff discount i got 2 uprated bulbs for almost the price of one standard buld so im not really complaining :D

If you look at the guide I did, you can see in the first pic that access is almost impossible without removing the unit - its all under the top of the front wing.

I based my method on the recommendation for the Octy II vRS with Xenon's which is on VRStu's Octavia-vrs.com site.

I guess having to remove the unit is why the Halford's bible says no!

ah right i was just curious but didnt realise it was a MKII you had when i first told you they'd fit them ok.Tried them out yet?
