Fun suspension..lowering springs

I've been told that Mk4 Golf lowering springs will work on my Fun pickup, is this true?? If so does this mean Mk4 coilovers will also fit.

The springs will work on the rear only, but bear in mind they arent correct or tested/rated for the vehicle. Also if the rear axle is dropped all the way down i think they are too short and will fall out (not 100% on this though).

Another realated question, would a lowing kit for a Kombi fit my Fun or is it the same as the Felicia?

I just wanted to know , how much of a change to the felicia 1.3 l lowering by 35 mm would do , i have ordered some omp ones and am hoping it will look and feel better, anyone else done the same?

well, i've done a few calculations on the info you've given, and consulted a known expert in that field, and i reckon the change will be approximately 35mm give or take a mm or so:D

I meant handling ect... is it worth paying out

lowering springs are normally stiffer than standard, so these will reduce body roll and tighen up the handling

iirc the omp ones are no good for road use becuase they aren't progressive and they have a fixed tension, they are more suited to tarmac/gravel rallying... i will check up on that and get back to you

what exactly does that mean progressive, I just do the normal driving at the moment , motorways local routes, your saying these are no good for this yet they are ok for rallying?

Progressive means (IIRC) the more you compress the spring, the stiffer it becomes, e.g. softer to start, for small bumps/loads, getting stiffer for large bumps. This makes the spring more comfortable to drive on, but compromises on body roll. A fixed rate spring, particularly a rally/race spring will be very stiff from the start, but give betted handling (assuming its matched to your dampers). Probable shake you and the car apart on normal roads though. Also, very stiff springs on stock dampers will probably be aweful, and you may find yourself bouncing down the road, as the damper is not strong enough to.... well, damp the spring. I'd recommend getting matched springs/dampers, for best results.

Fronts would be the same, the rear axle however is different.

yer, me! dropped my 1.6 by 35mm using the springs from butts of bawtry. makes it feel much stiffer and flatter round the courners, and it looks dam cool. go for it but get the right ones, they are specific to the engine. (1.6 is much heavier)

O just remenbered. i opened up the damppers and put heavier weight oil in to slow them down

So it looks like no-one makes a kit for the pickup then?? Only the salon and estate.

Yeah sorry air. It's not a great deal of work from what i've seen from pictures just need to know a few little bits about the set up and the dampeners.

Sorry I think came across as a young over enthusiastic plonker, i've actually been in the classic car restoring business for 9 years now and from what I saw of Lummox's pictures there was onlt two bit that need to be fabricated (as far as I could see:O ) which were the tops that go into the spring housing.

I know there are still a few tweeks that are needed. With a decent pressure in the rear bags the back sits too high, so is getting some additional plates made up to fix this. Think Simon (simonsheil) was getting them done this week. I'm sure he can provide details/photos. I think he's also putting new rear shocks (Koni sports) on at the same time.

All you would need to do is machine down the rear collars to do this. And then the required pressure would be higher at the same or lower level.

Plus you have to be carefull with two higher pressure in the back of a pick up which is very little load on the rear.
