Track day - 8th March Llandow

Featured Replies

Looks like you guys had loads of fun. And your vRSs must be much better set up than my SLXi - it's deadly in the wet. (makes mental note - get some decent tyres :D )

Have you tried dropping the air pressure? I found that even by

taking 0.2 bars out of them it improves grip by a surprising

amount!

Nice cornering shot Steve!

Three wheels on my wagon, and I'm still rolling along!

Maybe I need to uprate my suspension, 'cos he rolls less than me! ;) I suppose the other alterative would be to slow down! :D

Note to self, even when wet, you still need 20 clicks front, not 16! :D

:D

Does the vRS punch above its weight & power as a track day car or was it your better / committed :airjock: driving that allowed you to compete with these sort of cars? Just wondering cos I wouldn't have thought that Caterhams would have had much problem against something the weight of the vRS.

It was wet! :D I actually went out in one and my braking points were later, my speed down the straight was similar and my cornering speeds were marginally higher.

In the dry it would have been a different story :(

Good point Kentstu.

On paper my RS seemed to be 1 of the least powerful{POWER/WEIGHT} cars, and i must admit to being a bit nervous, but as it happened i had the biggest suprise of my life!{so did a few others :) }

Ive never been on track before and can only assume the weather wasn't to everyone's liking.

As the bloke in the Scooby said" How come the magazine's haven't got on to these".

To quote EVO magazine " It's NOT a car that would get you out of bed early on a sunday morning"

but maybe a wet saturday morning is different :D

I'm still experimenting with tyre pressures. Others suggested raising them when I complained about terrible understeer a while back. Now they are too high for wet use so they will be going back down. Trouble is at 7am or 7pm in the current weather conditions I don't feel much like messing around with an air hose - so the iterations are taking longer than they should :)

grumble mumble rubarb...you had a great day!

Does it matter it rained? Personally I think not, allows you to get more fun at lower speeds bla de bla :)

When's the next one; great shots from Picman, he must of been dedicated!

The wet of course :tomato: for the "track" cars. Unless of course driven well a la Stig would be hard pressed to "match" FWD TC in cornering and grip accelerating out of the corners.

Glad you had a cracking day.

Sorry for the delay Steve

Here they are, the pics of Jon's RS you sent me.

Thanks Manny.

Steve

Hey, what's Jon doing driving in a prohibited area?! :nono:

Bah, that was bad, even for me...

Steve and tavia RS

I see you both had a great day!! Nice pix too! I was interested in what was said about your cars ie 'How come the magazines havent got wind of these?' comment....Maybe the mags have , to a certain extent , but the 'Anti Skoda stigma' stops some folks getting into one and trying them out?...It takes demos like the ones you guys gave to maybe change some minds methinks! (maybe Skoda should pay you both a 'demo fee'?...lol!)

No I disagree. Keep them rare and unusual then you can still surprise everyone.

There is nothing like driving a motorised jam sandwich down the street , well thats what it feels like when most people constantly turn around to look at your car,

Cheers.

ps......lucky beggars, anyone want to persuade my wife I need a vRS as well as a new Superb?

Cheers

Grumble, mumble....

I was looking forward to coming along to watch (and cheer :bouncer: ) but the list of jobs I had to do this weekend was longer than the amount of free time.

Still, it looks like you had a good time - the pictures are great. (Now, how do I airbrush Steve's registration number out and put mine in? )
