Ex Police VRS's

Featured Replies

Who here owns an ex police Ocy VRS?

Of you that can say "yes" how do you find your motor, ie - good condtion, few faults, many faults, seemingly thrashed.

How many miles has it covered, and why do the police no longer own it?

Who's was chipped / remapped by the police?

Oops, maybe I should have directed my question to this thread rather than the other one on Police Octys :o

Yes!

Condition - **** hot considering it was West Yorks Traffic car, couple of small dents and paint chips, nothing major.

Faults - Bolsters collapsed but leather not ripped, couple of drill holes on interior, most plastics been replaced now, nothing wrong with the engine at all. and no zip in the headlining.

Thrashed - Yes and I've thrashed the **** out of it its had new wing bonnet bumper and door, but they've done a proper job and all panels line up sweet, but nothing has gone wrong yet other than the bonnet cable snapping and needing new discs, done 117k on an 02 plate, so its about time as they were the originals!

I've driven a standard VRS and mine feels a hell of a lot quicker, so its been chipped and it was decommisioned at 101k miles, I've had it since then, and to top it off i got a full service history printout which i've been told is extremely rare!

I bought mine after the police had crashed it and had it repaired. It's done only 62K (well, 63K now) and is in pukka condition. I have no holes etc in the dash, all body work was sorted after the crash (had the structure examined by RAC engineer - got the all clear)

I did have the "engine electronics" light come on - but have since discovered that this was something to do with me replacing the stereo (now sorted, thank u VAG COM)

The traffic officers ive spoken to assure me that it has spent most of it's life above 100MPH, however, other than driving it fast (and being crashed) it was very well looked after

Pixi - you dont need to be in the police to buy an ex cop car

Is the 205bhp an estimated figure or has it been RR'd?

  • Author

Estimated - I should change it really as I havn't yet got a clue..... going to change it now

What force are you near? It wont hurt to enquire about their system of getting rid of the things they no longer want / need.... people come out with far more ludacris things..... today I had someone want to report that they had trodden in dog crap - what exactly am i to do with that? In the end they were happy with my advising them to clean their shoe

Nottingham have some ST220's in silver, hatch and estates and I'm gonna put a cheeky word in with them I think, I know they go like stink as I followed one once, don't think the copper knew what to do as he had his blueys on! lol

Yes I do, and its a proper colour just like Robs!

I bought 51 plate off eBay with 89k miles on it. It was an unmarked car and the only evidence I have found is screw holes in the glove box for a radio, grommets in the rear lights and half a ripped out wiring loom for the front lights. The condition of it is amazing really (apart from the underside of the front bumper) and the interior is perfect. It has now covered 106k and I dont really drive it forgivingly. The engine was in standard trim but I had it remapped at 103k by Impossible Performance.

I too got a full print out of the history from the police, 3 sets of keys, the owners book with still sealed manuals and a cat 1 alarm with 2 zappers.

The log book also says 'Chief of Police' which is kind of cool. I did have to get the tax class changed which involves queing for ages at a dvla office only to be told you need to fill a form out and then queue up again.

I would definately buy another one, as far as I am concerned you get a right bargain, yes it might have above average mileage, but who cares? at least it will have been serviced regularly and had bits replaced that needed to be. I have only ever found genuine VAG parts fitted.

I think we should start a ex-plod car owners club, kind of like a Briskoda splinter group!

Weird, it seems that some were and werent chipped by police? Does anyone have concrete evidence to say theirs was rather than 'feeling faster'?

White? a proper colour? white? ;)

Mines in black, but I think I once heard someone say "it doesnt matter if it's black or white" or something like that.

I do think you get a real bargain. I paid £4300 for mine :)

As soon as I have the rolling road done, I will let you know.

Jabba have confirmed that "something" has been done - but they will want me to pay them (ie, put it on the RR) for them to tell me.

The police wont even tell me - and i'm one of them!! - same force too

Excellent, would be interested to hear the outcome.

I'm near the Hampshire boys and girls, I think I may encourage my contact to ask down at shanklin (traffic) when they are planning to sack their Octy :)

As others have said, at least you know it's been serviced regularly and if anything has gone wrong it's been sorted. I'm not that familiar with the residuals on the Octy, are the prices as much of a bargain as they seem?

I got pulled by a black Vrs yesterday on the A316 in surrey, He pulled me because I had my front fogs on by accident.

I think it was more to do with a Vrs pulling a Vrs, he told me his was remapped and chipped and also had an uprated boost valve and air filter aswell as uprated Induction kit.

After he was happy all was fine we both pulled out in heavy traffic onto the duel carrigway where he promptly left me for dead and i was gunning it as the traffic window was small.

Your local Police's website probably tells you which auctioneers they use for disposal (mine does) - they probably get sick of being asked.

They normally get rid of them after 3 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. (Hint: It's usually 100K miles) It's to do with the fleet warranty agreement made by the fleet manager with the supplier.

Remapped AND chipped? Thats a new one :D

im a member of the plod but i wouldnt dream of buying an ex police car as i drive them every day

we have a couple of unmarked vrs's which to be fair are in ok condition for police cars,

im a response driver and we dont treat them to kindly.

if you think about it i might get a call so i jup in my car from cold thrash the **** off it to get where i need to go quickly then stop it dead jump out and deal with what ever im faced with.

no warm up and certainly no cool down- not good for a turbo'd engine!!

ok so they are serviced regular and if anything is wrong with then they are took off us to be fixed straight away, but most wont have sevice records with them when they come to be sold on.

like one of the other guys said they are took out of commission when they reach the 100k mark or when they hit 3 years old

Mines got service history!!!

But its a one off I think lol, pally pally with the plod helps! lol

You mean they are wanting you to fraudulently tell your insurance company that it's normal ;)

I'm sure they wouldn't want you to do that and will furnish you with details so you can tell your insurance company what has been done ;)

Thats what I went in there and said, I needed to know for insurance purposes - for that they were happy to plug it in, to what I can only assume was VAG COM, but they said that the chip had been protected and could not be viewed?!?

VAG-COM and the dealer tools cannot access the maps. You need a mapper to take a look for you.

Another copper here and I have to agree with the last bloke!

Before I joined the job I always thought that police cars were driven by good drivers with advanced training and they were always serviced regularly.

I'm response driver trained and I can say that that is all true.

BUT

Part of the training is driving in an appropriate gear for the speed. The appropriate gear is the one where if you release the accelerator the car should begin to slow down and if you floor it the car should shift some! In other words when you are driving you should always be revving the t**s off it!!

Obviously when you aren't responding you tend to drop back to your everyday driving practices and drive sensibly but it's fair to say that you could compare an ex-police vehicle to one with FSH that's been owned by a boy racer. And as the other officer said, if you're sat in the station when an immediate response job comes in you jump in the car with no regard for warm-up times and hammer it from the very second it fires up until you pull up at the job. Not good.

I wouldn't touch one with a barge pole unless it was very very very cheap!
