Fairy liquid to cure clutch slip

Featured Replies

OK i had mild clutch slip on my vrs and after speaking to a few people including a very helpfull skoda dealer they both suggested squirting a mild solution into the inspection hole in the top of the gearbox. Anyway tried it and its worked. Not sure if its going to be a long term thing but it must have deglazed the disc or something cos its cured the slip.

Anyone else done this and had a result or got some feedback??

sounds like a very odd thing for a Skoda dealer to suggest you do to cure clutch slip

Hmmmm, detergents are designed to break down oil, so I can see it helping. But isn't there a MAJOR risk of oil contamination to other parts of the engine ?

If you are getting oil on the clutch I would suspect the crank oil seal.

nah i dont think its a oil thing or it be slipping beyond recovery and probably juddering plus the underside is clean as a whisle. I know the technician who told me, we talk every time i pop in for bits and to drink free coffee lol

I remember the Audi rally team using coke to stop clutch slip on Hannu Mikkolas quattro!

Did he sniff it?

i've heard that man milk can make it grip better too, just squirt some in the hole so to speak.

But then you would not be able to release it

Doesn't that depend on how long it's been?

My thoughts exactly Tom. Got to be up there with the "convert my disks to drums to stop the brake dust", "painting my disks" and "clean your headlights with brake fluid" threads imho

ah brake fluid is good stuff.......

if you ever need to hone the bores in an engine block, brake fluid is a very very good substitute to honing oil, and it's easier to clean off:)

That brake fluid thread was quality

where is the brake fluid thread... sombody post up a link... i'm too lazy (and stupid) to find it

Will someone go get me the glass hammer please, I've got to free up my clutch.

All that milk, coke, washing-up liquid, brake fluid made a right b*gger of me carpets.

Thanks for the tip mate - gonna try it when machining steel sometime.......

BTW, how about trying some paste hand degreaser - the smooth stuff without pumice is a miracle for a squeaky slipping fanbelt - learnt this off a professional mechanic.

SWMBO's car was making those squeaky noises on her way out of the drive - told her to turn off the engine and pop the hood. little bit of the old hand-cleaner (Gojo IIRC) and the squeal stopped. Made me look like I knew what I was doing (this always helps...)

Oh and it'll make your clutch smell lemony fresh too!!!

Cheers

Been reading this thread after doing a search. Very interesting.

Just where is the inspection hole on a Fabia Vrs? I've looked under the bonnet but cannot seem to find it.

Think I have a bit of a judder/slip on my clutch so I was going to try it to see if it cured it.

Car doesn't seem to run as freely as it did before it had its EGR valve replaced.

Thanks in advance.
