bought some millers super sport 4 from my local autofactors

It stinks doesn't it? :D

I put some of this stuff in the tank of my Bora TDI 130 yesterday and I think it feels smoother already. Tonight, on the drive home from work the computer was showing 56 mpg, I know it's not that accurate, but I don't normally see over 50 mpg, so something is going on.

just abit mate, it actually smells powerful.

plus they dont put a warning like squeze the bottle gentley when filling measure.

i gave mine a big squeze and got covered. (no jokes please)

Any more mini-reviews and updates on this stuff before I order a load to go in my Euro IV 1.9 TDI PD (105hp)...

Is it still all good? Still seeing mpg gains and slightly perkier performance?

Reading this thread I had to try some, so got a bottle at Motormania in Baddow Road Chelmsford. The car is normally run on BP Ultimate, Shell V-Power or Shell Extre diesel, so did not expect any gradual effects from a clean up.

So what has it done 2 tankfuls later? Both tests so far using 1:1000 or normal dose. Well first tankful was in with a 50/50 blend of Ultimate and Diesel Extra. Almost immediately, the car was noticably less Diesel harsh. Less part throttle noise, less diesel thrum. The general improvement in smoothness was pretty impressive. PErformance wise, maybe just a little more mid range, but perhaps a little less top end. Hard to tell, marginal effect at best.

Second tankful with Esso diesel. This stuff is usually pretty harsh sounding (not always) in my engine. The effect of the dosing on this fuel was to again smooth out the Esso stuff so it ran smoother than BP Ultimate usually does. Performance, agian, hard to tell. Not much in it I reckon, maybe a bit more mid range.

In both cases, fuel consumption is possily marginally improved. It is early days yet as I have not run a full tankful in my daily driving instructor type of use. Initially I would estimate perhaps 2mpg, about the same benefit as BP Ultimate (but so much less cost). Need to run more to tell for sure.

So overall, it really improves the way the car feels and may give a little more go / economy. If I use it to upgrade cheap fuel, it is much less costly over a year than buying premium diesels. Will it pay for itself in MPG terms? Well at 2mpg, that is around 19 miles per tankful for 72p, so not as god as an extra 72p worth of diesel. However, if it gives 3mpg, then it pays for itself.

The real reason for running this for me is it gives me a smoother quieter engine. A good thing when I often spend maybe 8+ hours a day in the car. Any benefit in fuel or performance is a bonus.

One word of warning though. The bottle is weeping dowm both seams. Anyone else had this? Time to invest in a 5l drum and some dosing bottles I think.

Chris

Cheers for the review Chris. You've convinced me :D

Whereabouts are you John? If you're NW based I'd be interested in a bottle or two, if you're splitting a batch...

Mine has been fine so hopefully yours is a one off :D

I'd take the bottle back to the shop if it were me Chris.

It is only a very small amount and it wont last long at 12.5 tanks per bottle. Just put in in a carrier bag in case it gets worse.

Chris

Old Diesel PowerPlus - ran this for over 200k but the same should / will apply.

You may think the performance / mpg / smoothness / quietness gains are small / marginal / whatever.

The proof of the pudding is when you run for a few tankfuls (even one actually) without.

The car seems gutless by comparison.

Chris

Never had a leak yet in must be over fifty bottles of the old Diesel PowerPlus - they seem pretty sturdy.

Can we get a group buy going? What do people think?

Steve,

If you can't get people interested you might be as well checking my input earlier on as the price for the 4.5 litre is pretty keen. TBH I can't see you getting it much cheaper even on a group buy.

Works out at about

Hi

The performance gain is subjectively small but definately there in the mid range. Top end (above 4000rpm) seemed to be same or slightly less power. As I cahnge up there anyway, not really an issue. Not huge gains but enough to notice. Certainly enough to notice if it was not there for a tankful.

MPG gains are hard to judge over a couple of days (only started running it Friday night) but if it gets me 3mpg I will be impressed. This is about the difference that I found between standard and Ultimate BP, but at a third of the cost.

Smoothness and quietness gains are really not subtle at all. A definate and obvious improvement even on an already good fuel and a really big improvement added to rough fuel. I reckon it will go particualrly well with Shell Diesel Extra.

I don't know if I mentioned before but I told many of the other lads (taxiing - old days) and 'my mechanic' of the benefits of the old Diesel Power Plus and they all 'converted'.

The old cars were a Jetta TD, and then a Cavalier 1.7TD which wasn't the fastest beast - hence it was particularly noticeable when my local factors had run out of Power Plus (happened quite a bit) and there was no additive in the tank. Even my wife could tell when it wasn't in tank !!!

Also, both cars (Jetta up to 100k and Cavalier up to 200k) used to fly through Emissions at Taxi MOT time (became 6 monthly) - every time my mechanic would come back and say the Tester had been shaking his head again in disbelief (both cars on original injectors).

I reckon for you (me / anyone) to notice the power improvement there has got to be around 10% improvement. If the new Sport 4 offers 17% then (if you accept the vRS as really outputting 140BHP) you're looking at 23 BHP extra.

Bit of overkill for me really, buying that amount in. Was thinking more of buying in larger quantities and splitting it, rather than a GB in the traditional sense of trying to get the std price down.

May just get a twin-pack from the same place as you linked to (less hassle?!)

Steve

Whatever - I suppose you would be as well trying it out first (but, going off the old, I think you'll be impressed).

If the 4.5 litre was too big then perhaps split it and sell the rest at a meet (?) as long as you had buyers pre-arranged.

If I can find a supply of 500ml bottles and 7/8 people I may do it.

Steve

Actually, you're in Gtr Manchester - can I not come and buy some of your bulk batch? :)

Steve

Try it first.

Whilst you're using it up save your shampoo or olive oil bottles - whatever it is that dastardly Spaniards put on their hair (-;

Just caught your post too late - if it's me you mean regarding buying bulk batch (I've just two containers of the old - but if I later find that the Sport 4 will do then I will get a 4.5 litre, like money in the bank i.e. saves me buying it later & also hunting it down).

 - I think I'm supposed to use olive oil, so that's perfect ;)

Yeah, I did mean you buying in bulk. Thought you'd actually got some of the new stuff, when you posted that link. No worries.

Cheers,

Steve

No, I was being my usual altruistic self - erm, not much else to do, don't want to watch the cr*p on TV my wife watches (Waking The Dead bad enough for you ?), etc etc

Chris

This is my thinking, the car is only run on Diesel Extra, and I was thinking the 2 may go nicely together...

Hopeing this Power Plus will be the finishing touch to go with my, soon to be, milder remap and panel filter :)
