Just joined. Fabia vRS Question

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've just joined so sorry if this has been asked before.

I'm about to order a Fabia vRS. Now I know that there is soooo much more to a cars power than 0-60 times (torque, in gear times etc etc) but I see that Skoda rate the vRS at 9.6 seconds. I've heard though from a number of sources that in reality this is more like 8.2-8.6 seconds. Can anyone confirm this?

Personally I think that a car weighing little more than a 1100kg with 130bhp must be quicker than a Golf weighing at least 300kg more with 130bhp and a book time of 9.7seconds???? Or am i missing something?

Cheers

Chump

Chump,

Hi and welcome

I was speaking to the Sales Guy at Horner's when I ordererd mine and he said, for some reason Skoda always underestimate their cars performances and are alot quicker than they say!!! Dont know how true this is though!!

John

Top Gear magazine rated the Ibiza TDI sport, which is likely to have very similar, if not identical performance to the RS, and it got 8.8 seconds from 0-60. Remember this is from a magazine which more often than not gets 0-60 times WORSE than the manufacturers book time. It also got 30-70 in 8.2 seconds and 50-70 in 5th gear in 7.5 seconds (11.9 in 6th). So its no slouch!!

Autocars times were even better - its just as quick to 100 mph as a Seat Leon 180bhp 20vT according to them...

Welcome to the forum chump

Chump,

Skoda seem to under estimate things as a few of the guys have been getting 140bhp when rolling roaded as standard.

Welcome chump, once the engine has loosened up, 9.6 will be beaten easily!

Any VAG brand quote their performance figures with a half laden car.

This explains the performance increase when you are driving the car alone, it's also true that BHP/Torque is underestimated and in true Diesel/16v fashion engine performance increases with milleage as long as you treat the car with respect (ie regular Oil changes, good run-in period)

1100kg? I thought the weight of the vRS was in the region of 1300kg...? I know the standard TDI is around 1200kg...

But generally, as a rule the book 0-60 time can be easily beaten after the engine has run in. I beat mine by about a second as standard, and by about 3.5 seconds once I'd paid a visit to Jabba... :D

Thanks for the welcomes. Look forward to driving it! :D

My mistake about the weight - you're right.

Problem is that this car is a company car that i'll only have for 9 months before having to get another new one.

I only do 9500 miles in 9 months so it won't really have chance to loosen up..... :(

Incidentally does the AMD map thingy just plug into the ECU? I could probably get away with adding some more power whilst I own it as long as i can reset what ever changes are made at the end of the 9 months. Going to Jabba would be the best option but can I be arsed to travel.....can I ******. So a plug in job would suit me better even if it yielded less power....

Yes' date=' the "one click" as AMD call it just plugs into the OBD port which is located in the little cubby box to the lower right of the steering wheel on the fabia.

It just uploads the modified code, stores your original code so you can swap from your stock program to the "improved" program as often as you like.

Have a read here for more info ;)

Do you work for a bank? When I was changing my Felicia back in September the dealer had 10 Octy SDi all about 9 months old which intriqued me. I was told that they had belonged to one of the well known high street banks.

I wouldn't touch an ex company car and the 68 bhp put me off so I bought the 1.6 instead that now belongs to SWMBO.
