Which engine?

1.2 12v

Look for the looped handle of the dipstick, normally bright colours. Can be sure on the 1.2 but on the vRS its the orange handle :

If you have been having driving lessons then surely part of those lessons is learning where the dipstick is. IIRC when you drove my car at the Bristol meet, you said you were learning to drive in a fabia.

Which one do you think it is going to be?

aa ok kool thanks h4rri. anyone know if its usually in teh middle at the front on all fabias?

On the 1.2 the dipstick comes up from the back left hand corner of the engine as you look at it. Bright orange, cant miss it.

aaa ok thanks ross:D:thumbup:

Not the best pic

But the dipstick is on the back left.

Assuming its a 12v, 6v is the same anyhow.

I highlighted this pic, in case you ever want to find the dipstick at any Briskoda meet. :D

DIPSTICK.jpg

Edit: But in all seriousness, any looped orange handle on the end of a tube in the engine is going to be the oil dipstick. I've gone through this with my Mum and they expect you to know about coolant levels, brake reservoir, and a fair bit more

ooo jase-thats harsh! but tempted to say fair as well!! lol

yeha i have to know:

  • how to check the headlights and tailights are working

  • how to check the brake lights are working

  • identidfy where the braek fluid reservoir is and how to tell it it s a safe level of brake fluid

  • where the windscreen reservoir is and how to check the level

  • how to check the oil level and where is it

  • how to check the engine coolant level and how to check the engine has the right level

  • how to check the power steering is working

  • how to check the parking brake for excessive wear

  • how to check the brakes are working before a journey

  • how to check the horn is working

  • where i would find the information for tyre pressures and how tyre pressures should be checked,

  • how to check the tyres to ensure they have sufficient tread and how to check the inidicators are working!!!

Jeesus thats harsh :|

Don't forget to wipe the residual oil off the dip-stick then re-insert prior to checking the level. Make sure the engine isn't running and has been stood for 15 minutes [ish] for the oil to resettle in the sump.

how to check the headlights and tailights are working

When you park at the front of shops with glass fronts look at your reflection. Similarly when driving towards bus stops.

how to check the brake lights are working

See above, when reverse parking look in rear view mirror.

identidfy where the braek fluid reservoir is and how to tell it it s a safe level of brake fluid

No idea, ask a man.

where the windscreen reservoir is and how to check the level

When the little dash light comes on add somemore.

how to check the oil level and where is it

Dipstick, child's play

how to check the engine coolant level and how to check the engine has the right level

That's the pink stuff under the blue lid. Again, ask a man.

how to check the power steering is working

Does your arms ache after parking?

how to check the parking brake for excessive wear

Put the hand brake on then go behind the car and give it a big push. Car moves load = dodgy brakes.

how to check the brakes are working before a journey

Ideally be on a bit of a hill. Take off handbrake, take car out of gear and press brake pedal - car shouldn't move.

how to check the horn is working

Press it

where i would find the information for tyre pressures and how tyre pressures should be checked,

Look in the car book thing that fingercrossed is in the glove box

how to check the tyres to ensure they have sufficient tread and how to check the inidicators are working!!!

Indicators are easy, just put hazzards on and get out an look. As for tyres, wait for Goochie to make condescending thread about you.

i dont have to show them how to check the oil level, just have to tell him how to! but will remember all that bit for answer if i get asked that one. :) only get asked 2!!

Two years this December.

Really you don't need to know all that crap. It is not rocket science to know if your lights work or not. If an idicator goes you know because it 'clicks' faster not because you are some sort of anal light bulb checker.

You have your car serviced so they do brake fluid etc.

In reality they just want you to jump though as many hoops as you can when passing a driving test. It is common sence rather than anything else.

This is what the "central 3/4" means:

Bit dark as the courtesy car doesn't have right's to enter my garage, that's the LCR's home.

Here are pictures of the engine bay.....

Quite dark, so I took two pictures :D

13214.attach

how to check the brake lights are working

Not that you can tell from doing this if both rear lights are working.

Usually, in order to check if there both working, you'd park with the rear facing a wall. Then by checking in each mirror.

Surprised that came from you. ;) I'll point it out to you next time we're both in the same vicinity, and it's nothing I ever check anyway - I just happen to know exactly where it lies.

They're also usually in the fuel filler cap, although in the Fabia I think they're in funny units (kPa?)....

Thanks Jason. But even if I knew where it was I would still ask a MAN-ual.
