Ford Racing Performance Parts did a conversion called the RS8, which was RWD. It also had a V8 stuck in the front!

RS8 - RS cars including Cosworths, RS Turbos, Artwork and much more

I can't see that a RWD focus with a V8 glued to the engine bay would be any lighter than a 4WD with a blown 2.5 up front. If they made it with 300bhp and 4WD with a bit of Cosworth fettling then it would be perfect. And people would pay at least £25K for a proper RS like this. (then I could afford it for £20K a year later),

I do rather have a soft spot for a fast Fords, this looks particularly tempting as it will be about the time I will be considering a change. I also like the look of the new Mitsubishi EVO which is due to be launched shortly, another tempter!!.

Correct me if i' wrong, but I was under the impression that Ford was not allowed to use the RS name anymore!!!

Thought it was because of when they tried to stop Skoda using it, it backfired!!!

The new RS is a 3 litre turbo, 4 wd with ??? bhp...

AutoCar have been hailing the return of the RS ever since the last one died. It wont happen - there simply isnt room for it in the market alongside the ST range.

If thay wanted to build a more powerful version surely they'd just call it ST4 anyway :confused:

there's a chap on the ford focus owners site has been suppling info on there for a bit about this, he claims that the autocar article is bull poopy and the next rs being developed is 4x4 and uses a 3.0v6 making 300bhp. its also not the mk2 as you know but the mk2 facelift.

you mean the fake escort?? that was only a 4x4 saph with a prettier body shell tacked over it.

and although 4x4 will make a car heavier it is capable of handling way more power than a FWD car so can be faster if done right.

My mum had one, was a great car as were the RS500 and Sierra she had before. I always liked the Fiesta RS Turbo she had though, that felt the quickest, was RR'd at around 180bhp IIRC.

AFAIK, the new "RS" has been in development for a little while, but the issue is trying to get ford to commit to the project.

However if it does go ahead expect 4wd, with active diffs, 275-300BHP (at a guess using the 2.5 5 cylinder in the ST) and some awsome, but subtle sytling to compete dirctly with the EVO X and Subaru Impreza.

By the time Ford get it to production , the mk2 will be 5 years old , so will be due for replacement , so if its built it will be a run out model , can't see it happening myself , not with the amount of money Ford are losing at the moment
