60 mpg out of a 1.9 d pick-up with 210,000 on clock with a faulty throttle potentiometer on the injector pump. also running about 6 miles to work and back.

I'm getting 42/3 mpg on a 30 mile trip up A303, drinvg like a grandad mostly. There must be some more in the Felicia somewhere. Maybe I'll ditch the seats !!

did that to my old 1.3. you do cut the weight down. but the road noise is, well loud

The VW 1.6 is only slightly better on the fuel, however you do get better performance from the 1.3. its a very willing engine.

You can not nor did I compare a rover DOHC with the Skoda Push rod. I was just making the fact that skoda no longer use them in for example the new Fabia 2007 range. The reason for this is down to emissions. Push rod can not and will not be able to meet some new strict EU emissions regulations and so Wise Skoda said ditch it and we can do better one example would be the just as cheap 3 cylinder 1.2 HTP engine they sport.

I am a big Fan of ROVER to you know. The K-series in the 400 Series was invented circa 1980's and its still light durable and economical. I can get more MPG from a 1.4 Rover 414i than my skoda 1.3Mpi however the power from the Skoda in my opinion is much better. The rover reminds me of driving with your living room sofa lovely. the Skoda is more sporty!! , I did drive an Alfa Romeo 1.3 33v for years it was great but again it was a boxer engine with carbs and again the performance(so different engine:P ) from the 1.3 Skoda is better. The MPG on that however was somewhere similar to the Skoda. Maybe we should all put clover leaves on our Skodas;) (never remove the winged arrow:mad: is sacra-religious:D )

I keep my skoda Well serviced and no expensive is ever spared. I will be upgrading within a year I hope. And I do like the Fabia so I might go that root.

Did you know that "during the war" BMW made horrendous engines terrible and then Mr H. Made em buck up there act, they used to build aircraft engines originally hence the design of the blue and white logo. However the engines where not all that hot it was only after the war that they got better.

As we all know Skoda/Peugeot and Daimler Benz are the oldest car company's ! and "during the war" Mr. H Took over the Skoda works for a few tanks and the good old ball baring factory!
