Felicia poor idle when cold

Featured Replies

Hi,

My girlfriend has a 2000 (W) 1.3 petrol Felicia which idles pretty badly when you first start it from cold. It evens out at higher revs and it's fine when it warms up. She also complains about it stalling when cold, but I have my doubts that this is purely down to the car! :o It's only done about 20k miles and I'm about to give it service (which doesn't seem to be much more than oil and filters). Plugs and leads were replaced last year (didn't really improve matters). Any ideas what I should look for?

Thanks,

Tim

the little air gate in the air box has probly packed up. one little sencer in the air box.

Check the rubber pipe work for any splitting

Hi!

Had the same problem on my 1,3 MPI, 2000

My quick fix was to clean the throttle-valve with a moist cloth (over and under) and then the problem was gone. If took me only 10 minutes.

Best of luck

Tor

i solved mine by taking the air box and all the other crap out. and fitting an induction kit :D :D :D

Thanks, everyone. Will try to take a look at the weekend if it's not pouring down with rain! What's the air gate in the air box for? To richen the mixture when cold?

Thanks again,

Tim

it's a two way gate, that takes in hot, or cold air. the little sencer controles the mix of the two, so the engine has the right temp of air to run smoothly.

if you un-clip the top of the air box, and take out the filter. you'll see what i mean.

i take it from the year, that yours is an mpi,

Erm....! From a quick look under the bonnet the other week it's got direct ignition (no distributor) and it looks like an injector per cylinder, so yes I guess it's an MPi! Is there an ID plate or way to tell the exact type of engine from the VIN?

Thanks,

Tim

yer, its an mpi. should have a plastic cover over the engine that says

"skoda 1.3mpi"

anyhoo, bottom left as you look at the engine bay. the clips can be a bit of a dog, but nothing to hard.

do you have a round air fillter on top of the engine?

or a square box at the bottom left of the engine bay?

It's a Round one on the top of the engine held together by some springy clips and some bolt on the top.
