tesco fuel

Featured Replies

Anyone been involved in the supposed Tesco/Morrisons contaminated fuel problem just reported? If so, which grade of fuel?

Off anotherForum it was super, guess they are trying to water it down again

This will be covered on the BBC 6 o'clock news tonight.

A colleague had problems with her car after filling up at Tescos last year. Turns out she and others had to have their fuel tanks drained. Sorry, I can't tell you what type it was.

Story on ITV news suggest that something in the fuel is knackering the lamda sensor! Wonder if a batch of LRP has been accidently branded as unleaded?

Was this the 99 ron?

swmbo's hyundia getz has just had a a problem with the oxygen sensor, engine check light came on. RAC said its poor fuel thats caused it. She uses Tesco 95 Ron not the superstuff.

Wonder whats happened,

Heard this on the radio returning from work, it didnt specify what the contamination was but following the link that Denis (DGW) put up (Thanks for that - quite interesting read) it appears to be ethanol, someone in the Have Your Say comments have said in the US , some unleaded petrol has 10% ethanol in it but this is marked on the pump. Also looks like the problem isn't confined to the south-east.

And be careful about Tesco Insurance too. My cousin heavily crashed her new Honda Jazz, which should normally be written off (cars under 6 months to a year old are usually written off when repairs are serious AND they are being paid for under finance). Tesco insurance have failed to follow this route and offered her a courtesy car for a limited period whilst her car is in the garage for up to six weeks!

Cars will only be written off the cost of repair is un economical. The think that they will do in the first year is to replace it if it is a total loss.

Depends on the policy stu.

It was (not sure if it still is) common to replace a seriously damaged car during the first year with a new one, and then either sell the repairable car on or repair it and sell it on fixed.

With the ever cheap insurance, I guess this is one area where they can reduce costs.

Correct as I understand it

Will Pinky be affected, does she have Oxygen sensors in the exaust????

My policy has the following clause -

If within one year of its first registration as new in Your name:

  1. Your Car is lost by theft and not recovered, and is the subject of a claim under Section C, or
  2. Damage covered by the terms of this Policy is caused to Your Car to an extent greater than 60% of the manufacturer's list price (inclusive of V.A.T.) at the time of such damage.

Yeah so 60% of list is considered heavy damage :)

Either way something to watch out for as every policy will be different.
