Scotland - land of the Skoda

Featured Replies

Spent a lovely week on the West coast of Scotland last week and I saw more skodas than I've ever seen before. Is it because the Scottish have got a genetic tendancy towards value for money (polite way of saying tight gets! :)) or some other reason?

Fantastic roads with no traffic on them as well, the vRS is now well run in with 2500m on the clock and just gets better all the time:thumbup:

no it's just because we know how to enjoy ourselves behind the wheel of our cars.i live for my vrs, would not drive anything else. unless i won the lottery.( fat chance)

Cheeky Git!

The Scots give more money per head of population to charity than any other country in Britain! Rant over.....

Seriously though you would think we were an annexe of the Czech Republic with the amount of Skoda's on the road.

Hope you enjoyed your visit!

Regards,

Steve

WE had a fantastic time, stopped off in Fort William on the way up for the night, then on to Gairloch (Badachro) for the rest of the week, well recommended place to stay.

Aye, the jocks love their Skodas.

Dumfries & Galloway has more Skodas than any other place in the UK.

Delmore Cars in Inverness are the only main dealer for miles and miles and miles...

took my vrs up to inverness the week i got it, did 1000miles in 3 days

lovley roads up there and the vrs is well suited to the hilly terain.

heres a pic of it in them hills :D

I took mine up to Fort William end of Jan this year for some snowboarding. Once I got passed Glasgow the roads were made for the VRS. I could appreciate why they voted it their car of the year back in I think 2003?

you were in badachro?....top man:).....you have a good time?......spent many a drunken night there!!:).....not nice trip bak to ullapool next day with a hangover though!!...lots of stopping and laughing at the ground!!

k:)

think its summat to do with the awesome heaters- a proper boon in the neverending drizzle!

Fabmark- glad you enjoyed our fine country, we're quite good at having 3 types of scenery in 50 miles

up Fort William way are awesome little back roads. next time you're up there try taking the corran ferry from just past Glencoe on the a82 and head for Strontian

16miles of mainly single track road:thumbup:

if you're heading up again give some of us scots some warning and we can get a cross border meet going!

Borderspeed- Can I just say, was stopped in a car i'd just bought from Manchester by your boys in blue on the m74

Big  to the courteous and considerate manner that they did their job with.

Nowt wrong with car, so no issues merely triggered by the car having been to a dealer and me having day ins (so came up as uninsured)

Best of all was I said " can I phone my Brother, officer" to which he replied "the boy in the skoda? " awesome!

1000miles in three days is taking it easy, there are so many cracking little b roads its easy to do 3500 a week if you aint careful!

Yep, we stayed on Dry Island, had a fantastic time but a bit of a trek to the inn, unfortunately they had no real ale on though with it being winter, the locals only drink guiness, lager and sheep blood!

The roads are made for the vrs up that way, unless it snows then I wouldn't fancy it too much.

Will be back at some stage although most likely not in summer due to the midges.

Snow+ backroads=FUN!

go to norway and watch the oldboys hooning about in Jag XJR's -420bhp and traction control off, in 3 ft of snow!

certainly the Vrs's slab of torque would be handy on the uppy downy bits!

yeah lots of skodas in scotland including mine hehe i was over the west coast last weekend too stayed friday night in mallaig..... i live on the east coast but i love the scenery on the west side....

The A82 from Tyndrum to Inverness is one of my favourite roads:thumbup::thumbup:

Averaged 61 mph on one trip in the vRS:eek::eek::o:cop1:

 guys

does anyone know if these snooper devices for speed camera detection are any good.these roads in scotland and my vrs are going to cost me my licence ,unless i get one .must be reasonable cost though ,got fines to pay.caught twice in a week. well hacked off.

Brick under the accelerator?;)

I know what you mean though, look at this picture I took, you can see the road snaking away into the distance just begging you to drive it, it's like the Nurburgring but with potholes, the occasional car coming the other way at you and bloody sheep everywhere!

Fixed speed cameras are rare in the Highlands - Northern have none. The A9 from Stirling - Drumochter has several fixed ones.

Plenty of mobile ones/ videos/handheld. Plus marked/unmarked cars :mad::mad:

But drive in a sensible manner and you'll be OK .

Be aware of foreign tourists/****wits/ Tesco mobile roadblocks. The transition between dual/single carriageway sections of the A9 is a PITA

if your on the A9 dont play tag with super fast cars that are a bit flash!!.....will prob be highland 50!!....they have a habit of using rather s****y cars as their unmarked!!.....better still stay off the A9!!...its a killer...in all senses of the word!!

k:)
