3 days and its broken!!

Featured Replies

dont believe it, 3 days after picking the damn thing up and its broken!

started her up this morning, drove about 500 meters down the road, light comes on, its the "exhaust emmisions light"...

doesnt go off either when you restart the engine - no warning message on info display either....

has anyone had any experience of this? what could it be?

Hi

It could be all manner of things.

You need to get the ECU scanned to check for the offending fault code that's bringing this light up.

Either find someone locally (on here) that has VAG-COM, or take it to the dealers.

oh its at the dealers as we speak... a small mushroom cloud marks the spot where i launched my rocket at them this morning :)

its not there fault, just teething problems

If it's that new, take it back to the dealer.

as above, its just teething problems....

can they tell how fast youve been in it from their software?

ive been running it in, but we did hit a little over *ahem* 80 on a private road.

Don't think they can tell how fast you have been, but it will record if it goes into the red.............So I'm Told

It does have a 'engine revs exceeded' in the ECU if that's happened ;)

But no I don't think you would have problems regarding the max speed, that would only be with law enforcement side of things.

It has to go into the red and stay there for some time to register in the ECU. Blipping it into the red won't be recorded AFAIK.

Yeah - and I've never had that warning - so I doubt it will be a problem :D

iirc it will log the highest speed

iirc it will log the highest speed

lets just say it was a lot over 80... im more screwed if the wife finds out :)

Yeah but I doubt a dealership would 'use that' to avoid warranty work?

That said in this case based on the car being 3 days off the forecourt I would be amazed if any trouble came from that regardless.

I'd expect the problem to get sorted FOC and fairly quickly, after all the dealer is also interested in getting the service-related business going forward :)

are they likely to look for that though?

to be honest, the secification of the car states that it can do 129mph (or something??) so as such it should be capable of doing that sort of speed without blowing up....

*ahem*

lets just hope they dont look for it then

in fairness, i did that run 2 days ago, and since ive done at least 30 miles in it over 2 days. when looking this morning there was a LOT of black soot around exhaust (i assume this is normal with diesals though)..... im hoping its just a sensor/glitch.

No need to worry about a black exhaust on diesels...its just the soot.

Hi MJ

I have the same problem with my Furby at the moment.

Has your dealer diagnosed the problem for you? If so what did they say?

Thanks in advance.

will post it on here when i know....

they took it in at 8.30am this morning, said they we're sticking it on the ramp at 11am...

ill phone them about 4ish if ive not heard and let you know on here.

well i phoned them at 4pm and they promised me theyd phone me back by 4.05pm... guess what - no call.

if you see a 2nd crater/mushroom cloud in the hereford vicinity its just me inserting it into the service department.... ill post the results later/tommorow

I hate it when people & companies never phone you back.

Hope you get it sorted soon. Let us know when you have some news!

A quick calculation (and a rough one at that) tells me that as long as you didn't go over 110 you weren't going over the 3/4 of the maximum gear speed that is quoted in the running in instructions.

Assuming you were in 6th!

This argument can be used for both wife and dealer.

Good luck and I'm sure someone who can actually do maths will tell you an even higher speed.

*ahem*... neither matter came up. and your bang on with the calcuations at that speed :)

basically got down there last night, they'd ripped the car to shreds, plugged in their computers n all sorts and found 2 faults being reported.

these 2 faults were to both do with the exhaust emmisions, but there was no Physical fault with either device... they reset the software and the error went away.... they seem to thing that it might be a problem with the relay??? (not sure if that makes sence/or is linked)... however the problem is gone....

they said they did have one other skoda with the same problem reported but that was to do with a pipe coming loose, but that wasnt the case with mine.

theyve said theyll have it back for the day if it occurs again, but for the moment, all seems to be fine after the software clearance + no issues this morning.

thanks to everyone on here for lobbing in their 2 pence worth - very appreciated.

Is your car a new one?

I'm sure it will be ok  - perhaps the EGR valve wasnt behaving itself or something. Keep an eye on it :)
