Got my VRS TFSI at last! (have oil worry i think though?!)

Featured Replies

Hi

Picked up my 2nd hand VRS in south of england, black with maxi dot, dual climate, xenons and 18 inch alloys as extras. Had a 500 mile drive to get home on thursday but it was worth every mile and even made work on friday! Only thing is, when i picked up the car the oil read about 2/3rds on the dipstick but i checked it yesterday as i was getting a slight waft of sumthing burning through the climate control, (also noticed this driving through england, very faint smell though) and it read just above the minimum!! Is this normal after a drive like this (500 miles in 9hrs) and do i just need a top up or should i be concerned with this rapid drop in oil level and this smell from the climate control??

Advice would be much appreciated.

Regards

Sean

PS I need a top up anyway so do i need to know the EXACT OIL used when the car first left the production line or does any oil recomended in the manual do, ie an it be mixed with slightly different oil??

Thanks

Sounds like you have a small oil leak, and its dripping onto either the engine or the exhaust pipe / manifold. hence the burning type smell.

To make sure you get the correct oil, visit your local skoda dealer as they will supply the oil that they use to fill the enigne.

i'd say visit a dealer and say its losing oil can you sort it out please :)

I checked under the car there and there is no sign of an oil leak. Would it be possible that it is only leaking when the engine is running? If so, i dont think im gonna make it to the skoda garage (20 miles away) as im nearly empty  . If i could get to a garage and top up with specified oil would that not do??

Thanks for replys every one.

For flexible service intervals use a spec VW 503 00 or 504 00 oil. If on fixed service intervals, use a VW 501 01, 502 00 or 504 00 oil. I would opt for a spec 504 00 oil. See the thread below for oils which would be suitable. Major Shell and BP filling stations should have their own brands to that spec in stock.

Cheers Denis,

Will try a few of these local garages to see if any of them do it.

Sean,

chances are you wont see any sign of an obvious leak. if the oil is dripping onto something hot, it will just burn up. it will leave a mark where it has landed but nothing will hit the drive / road. I would say it sounds like its only leaking with the engine on.

I have a question - Was the oil DEFINATELY on max, or did you assume that t was full when you left ?

New cars will need a top up during the 1st 10k, so you should keep an eye on it anyway.

Thats what i thought when i saw no traces on drive. Thanks:thumbup:

The oil was definately 2/3 to 3/4 full as i checked b4 we left. It has 14000 miles on it and ive done about 550 miles since i got it.

These TFSi engines do drink a little bit of oil.

I use Shell VW Specific oil to top mine up.

Took car to local dealer there this afternoon. What can i say. Problem solved while i waited in service reception!! Now thats what i call service, awesome:thumbup: . Mannyo, you were spot on fella, slight leak from oil sump onto exhaust causing smell and motorway driving from taking car home through england causing leakage to intensify:thumbup: . Leak repaired and car filled with engine oil and away i went! Thanks for making the mechanic think i knew what i was talking about:O !! Think i can finally relax now and start to enjoy this lovely car. Cheers to all for their comments.
