How safe is pro solvent flushing of petrol injectors?

Featured Replies

For a change nothing to do with my Fabia - I have a fuel injected GM trailblazer that is a little long in the tooth. I want to get the injectors professionally solvent cleaned while on the car. Apparently they hook up a special unit that pumps solvent through the injectors, cleaning the orifices.

After some 100K kms with occasionally contaminated fuel I feel that this would help tune up the vehicle and help with economy (?!).

Is this pretty safe or potentially risky? Nothing majorly wrong with the injectors, just want to make sure they are spraying as good as new.

Cheers

doubt if it makes a lot of difference really.... ultra-sonic cleaning is the best way forward imho

Petrol is a solvent, and about the nastiest one I'd want near a precision component like a fuel injector. As Tom says, if you think they need cleaning, ultra-sonic is the way to go, recommended by such luminaries as Dave Walker (who I know knows more about it than I do).
