Is this a good buy?

Featured Replies

Looks like a steal if that really is all that's happened to it. Would resale be hard though?

Something doesn't ring true for me.

It's not a 2007 MY as it has green calipers. If it is so new and assuming he bought it to sell on why did he put a private plate on it. If he didn't buy it to sell then why is he selling now?

It's cheap... for a reason. A Cat D car will never fetch the value of a normal car, so what you save now, you will lose when the time comes to pass it on.

Would the warranty still be valid?

If purchased i would keep the car for at least 5years if not longer.

Agreed its only a bargain if you intend to keep it for a (very) long time

according to the gallery on - Skoda Octavia vRS they do have green calipers?

Something doesn't ring true for me.

It's not a 2007 MY as it has green calipers.

But it also says: Date of 1st Registration: 01 Dec 2006

not sure if that changes anything as i know NOTHING about VRS's!

The original cars came with green calipers however one of the revisions of the 2007MY (Built from around 05/06) was a change to red calipers.

I'm sure that one has been on eBay before. Bargain in my mind if everything checks out and you keep it with a view to run it for a long time, therefore taking selling difficulties out of the equation.

Can't see any reason why it wouldn't have the remainder of its warranty intact.

If your interested. Get an AA inspection service done on the car, and then HPI it.

There is also a red Octy vRS saloon on Flea-bay 190093818887, that is advertised with the same smoke/soot damage.

Perhaps they had a fire at the showroom and all the cars were written off by the insurers, but something still seems a bit funny ???

If I was looking for a car privately, I would seriously consider it..... but I would get it checked out by an expert... (like all the good advice from the guys/girls on here :) )

I saw the red one too - clicky

There is a low start on it, although there is a reserve.

I believe the fire was at some dealers in Grimsby - there have been a few cars knocking around that mention it, and I have seen threads before on here.

Date of registration means nothing.

The car sat in the showroom unregistered, and was then written off after fire damage. The car would have then been bought unregistered, fixed and then registered hence being registered much later in the year.

He replied to my message with this -

I have just spoken to Skoda Macclesfield and your right and wrong, let me explain, if you order a VRS today you will get red calipers, there are no other differences what-so-ever according to them.

However Skoda Macclesfield have green capiler cars that are 2007 07 reg plates. My car was registered at the end of 2006 which in reg plate terms carries over to March 2007.

Really theres no real right or wrong as the car has no other changes or modifications to it according to the dealer. Thank you for the heads up though, worth a phone call to check the facts.

I have advised him in the error of his dealers.

Another reply -

If your interested in the car please follow the bidding, good luck. I am sure your right but I'm not really that interested, it's an 06/07 car, I'm not trying to hoodwink anyone and I did speak to Skoda Macclesfield about your comment on the red calipers and as you said if you order now you get Red, but and it's a BIG BUT, YOU WILL PAY £20k+ FOR THE PRIVELEGE. Happy bidding.

I've replied again telling him he is trying to hoodwink people as he is trying to sell something which isn't as advertised.

Hmmm. Anyone heard of a dealer burning down?

what are the differences on the 07 spec cars then?

Most obvious is the brake calipers. Maxidot if fitted is different, MP3 socket in the Jumbo Box and a Stream MP3 radio.

There is also a different gearbox although why or for what reason I don't know.
