Hello to all on the Briskoda forums from Wicklow, Ireland.

I've a loyal skoda user (family have owned 4 & I'm on my 2nd one by the age of 25)

I'm here to ask a technical question regarding my fabia.

Background:

2001 Skoda fabia saloon

16v 1.4l engine MPI

66,000 miles on the clock

Question:

From time to time the engine management ligfht appears on my dash.

It goes after a few days. This has happend a few times on and off.

But its happened again, at the worst possible time.

The missus has her driving test tomorrow and we cant get to a dealer to get it

switched off.

I've topped up the engine oil but the "Service - Oil" display still shows at startup too.

The worry is that though the car is fine the over-zealous driving testers will do

anything not to allow the test.

Is there anyone out there who knows how to disable both of these lights manualy?

Thanks very much

Greetings........

As a temporary solution only, I suggest you should consult your manual, and look for "resetting the service interval" - that should get rid of the service/ oil on the display. If however the yellow EML light is on, then you will need someone with a fault reader or VAGCom to reset it.

The service - oil indictation means that your car is due for a normal oil service, the indication will not clear until this has been reset by a dealer after the service.

Welcome to Briskoda

Surely they can't fail you for that !!!! Tell them its a warning to have your car serviced soon NOT straight away. Is there a countdown on it with miles left to service.

BTW Irish Newbie...you have a PM :)

Hello from Dublin!

As gaff said... you have a pm from him (he beat me to it ths time...in fact everytime  ). Anyway I can trow VAG-COM onto the Fabia to give it a quick checkover when I get back to the country (Sunday is the earliest I can do it). It'll give me an excuse to take the hearse for a spin.

BTW Irish Newbie...you have a PM :)

You'e getting very blunt with the PM notifications recently. Must be the broadband. :D
