Mooting as I'm bored at work.....

If I wanted 200+ imperial BHPs from my Fabia VRS, what would I need?

Your airbox can remain bog standard with a performance panel filter and a 160 intake to free up breathing a little

Also may wish to consider some stopping power & handling improvements as well as potentially a Quaife or Peloquin ATB to help actually put the power down.

Handling wise, I have the Eibach springs and dampers plus the Jabba ARB.

Not too sure I'd want/need an LSD. I s'pose I could add in another

For 200bhp+ I'd say

FMIC £500+VAT

Turbo Dynamics Stage 2 Hybrid Turbo £975+VAT

or Allard VT2 £795+VAT

Custom Remap £400ish

Ibiza Cupra intake pipe £30

Total £2027 to £2238 + Fitting

I'm leaving my standard airbox in. When I get remapped again I'm looking for around 270 horsies, maybe more. What's "imperial" BHP. Is that when there 16 ponies in the HP. :rofl: and 14HP in the "Oooh it's quick" ?? :D

I meant real and measureable rather than guessing. To that end, I s'pose I should get it RR'd at some point in the near future, though as it's already got a mild remap on it, I'm not exactly starting from a known base.

Gotta start somewhere though. :)

:iagree: I cannot wait to get mine in. I pick up the donor gearbox for it on Easter Monday. :cool: Should then be a swift in & out job. New box is less than 10k to the good as well, so in many ways I'm "renewing" a part of my car, and it means I have a spare box should the doggy excrement hit the fan.

Still. it's a lot of money to pay for that extra 20-30bhp over a remap :(

Best value for money is probably a remap that doesnt max out your std turbo but uses it a little more, do the arch venting thing, and get 170ish bhp or thereabouts.

Spend some money on handling and brakes next.

If you go beyond, it gets expensive for sure.

I went for the full package mainly as I will be keeping the car for years all going well, and wanted reliability. Unfortunately the engine grief kinda messed that up but really the car has been totally reliable and has felt 'safe' with the power on tap when used with some sense, nice to push the figures up though :D

As with all tuning, the big increase is usually first and on turbo cars the cheapest. Then the following small increments are more costly.

Having driven a few 200+bhp diesels and 'just' remapped ones the difference is well worth it imho.

so waht kind of figure are we looking at for Quaife or Peloquin?

Am i correct in saying they should be fitted the same tme as a clutch upgrade (if nothing else to cut instalation costs)

Do uprated clutch & pressure plate at the same time for sure, much less labour charging that way.

Cost wise, it may pay to have a word with Jason (Devonutopia) as he's done an import from the US which at the moment is WAY cheaper due to exchange rates etc, even when you get hit with import duties.

Mine was fitted too long ago to give you a good idea tbh though soz

are clutch/pressure plate and LSD different things entirely?

if i was to get a new clutch would the pressure plate not be changed?

I realise i'm probably sounding really:newbie: at the moment. but when it comes to cars i pretty much know how to get in them and go. (oh and top up the washers:D )

Yes they are very different things.

The clutch is made up of three parts. A pressure plate (or cover plate) a centre plate (or friction plate) and a release bearing. The clutch as im sure you know disconnects the transmission from the engine so you can change gear.

The differential is a vital part of the tranmission allowing drive wheels to rotate at different speeds i.e cornering. With a normal open diff drive will always travel out through the wheel with least resistance. So if one wheel has less grip it spins. However with a limited slip differential it locks up and provides drive to both wheels increasing traction. The differential is internal to the gearbox and connects your 'gears' to the driveshafts essentially.

clutch plate and pressure plate are the two friction parts of the clutch assembly and an LSD is a limited slip differential compared to the open differential that is fitted to the standard car. the differential is what lets your wheels spin at different speeds so you can actually go round corners but an open diff also lets the wheel with less resistance take more power so you spin just the one wheel up where as a LSD tries to keep both wheels spinning at about the same speed but allowing a small difference so you can corner but keeps them similar enoughso they both spin up instead of just one :)

so yes, they are completely different.
