Ive got a Mercedes MAF for a diesel.

Got this on the Fabia, had heard they make a difference (can olny be to fueling) and produce a bit more power. But i put it on the same time as the hybrid so its a bit unclear. I will do two back to back tests when im on the rollers this week.

I can only guess from the context, but:-

MAF = Mass AirFlow (sensor). It measures how much air is going into the engine, and from this the ECU calculates how much fuel to inject.

It sounds like the Mercedes MAF is similar to the standard Skoda one, but its output "spoofs" the ECU into calculating a higher airflow - so increasing the fuelling. If I'm right, it works the same way as a tuning box; more power, but a slightly dirtier exhaust.

Which model of merc does it come from?

They are also more robust than the VAG ones and not so prone to failing.

From what I've heard,the Merc (Pierburg?) MAFs tend to handle dirt and oil vapour from the crankcase vent system better than VAG ones.

I have seen it done on TDIclub too with VAG 2.0 MAFs (IIRC they are much stronger as the MAF is positioned after CCV system on 2.0s and it has to cope with all the vapours etc)

So maybe a worthwhile MOD for anyone with an oiled air filter fitted, if bothered about MAF failure

There are 2 OEM MAFs (ie air volume meter) listed for the Fabia 1.9 ATD engine, depending on chassis number. The cost is

Also, is it just the housing or the sensor as well? I'm assuming that at that price it's just the housing.
