vRS TFSI 0-62MPH Times

Featured Replies

Had my car for over a week now and its dont 1900+ Miles (been driving from germany to uk and from plymouth to lancashire)

I was obviously being paranoid but i thought the car wasnt producing any boost in second gear onwards. So i went out in it with my dad last night to do a few runs. I was using the mega accurate:rolleyes:  Sony Ericsson W810i Phone Stopwatch:rofl:  and a proper hang round your neck im a sports teacher stopwatch:rofl: .

We Went onto the east lancs road and the first run i did produced the following time from standing start until the needle on the speedo was in between 60 and 65mph

Phone - 6.7 Seconds

Stopwatch - 6.73 Seconds

I thought this was a fluke (Was relieved at first as it was obviously just me getting used to the car) so decided to do 15 0-62 runs and then take the average

i got the following times

Run Phone Stopwatch

1 (7.4) (7.42) (Had loads of wheels spin at start

2 (6.7) (6.74)

3 (6.9) (6.91)

4 (6.7) (6.72)

5 (6.7) (6.73)

6 (6.8) (6.79)

7 (6.4) (6.44) (Got a perfect start and had no wheel spin)

8 (6.7) (6.68)

9 (6.8) (6.83)

10 (6.8) (6.81)

11 (6.7) (6.72)

12 (6.7) (6.69)

13 (6.7) (6.74)

14 (6.7) (6.70)

15 (6.9) (6.88)

The first time is the Phone time the Second time is the stopwatch time

Now from that i would say the car does the 0-62 in around 6.7 seconds the 6.4 i achieved was a pure fluke as it was a perfect launch and if im honest the stretch of road was probably slightly downhil too. I know that a Mobile Phone and a £20 stopwatch aint exactly official timing equipment but i dont reckon they will be too far out. this is obviously way quicker than the 7.3 quoted in the manual and i would be interested to see if anyone has done a 0-62mph proper timing run in a standrad vRS.

The car had done 1944miles before starting this and had Tesco 99 octane fuel in.

Like i said i know these timings wont be wholly accurate due to the equipment but 0-62mph in 6.7 is what im claiming from now on until i can find somewhere to do it with proper timing equipment:rolleyes: (Me can feel a trip to the Nurburgring coming on soon:rolleyes:  )

Anyone care to test the same in the TDI version?

There's probably nothing wrong with the accuracy of your 'timing equipment', the problem is, how do you know when you're doing 62mph?

Dave.

Like i said i waited till the needle was between 60 and 65 on the speedo

If you used the speedo as the measure of your 62 mph then you might find it was a bit less. 65mph on my speedo shows as 60mph on the GPS. I guess the GPS is going to be far more accurate especially as car makers always build in optimism in to their speedos.

My speedo is exactly 6% out compared to my Roadangel GPS, you have probably measured about 0-58 hence the low times, a remapped Octy vrs Mk 1 with 230bhp is only going to do circa 6.6 seconds to 60, funnily enough with my last oct vrs ( which was running 226 bhp and 260lbs ft torque I came up against a BMW 330d Sport ( official time 0-60 6.6 seconds ) and they were absolutely neck and neck!!

thanks for all destroying my dream but in fact when im doing 65 in my vRS my tomtom shows 64 so at the moment im still living in fantasy land and im claiming 6.7:rolleyes: :rofl:

Slightly OT sorry but I've got a TT910 and how do you get it to display actual speed?

The actual speed is the the display setting menu on the TT910 - mine does show 5%-8% over read on the speedo

Wow! 16 runs 0-60 how's your clutch? if you have one left!!

Seriously 6.7 seems pretty reasonable. Manufacturer's figures are habitually caution and Autocar road tested the vRS TFSI at (as far as I can remeber) 6.7sec.

So, Mater, yours is bang on the pace.

ENJOY

The clutch is just fine no smell or nothing:thumbup:

Just to be safe though i went to chappel house skoda today in wigan told them a fib that the car seemed to be labouring and the clutch seemed to stick every now and then. They were really helpful as im off back to the Fatherland tomorrow so they took the car off me today to have a look at. They put it on the diagnostic found no fault codes then spent 3 hours checking the vehicle and in the end the mechanic said he could find nothing wrong with it he'd checked the clutch , gearbox and Turbo.

He said everything was fine:thumbup: then asked what fuel i was using. I told him i was now on Tesco 99 but had been using BP ultimate. He said Steer clear of BP Ultimate:thumbdwn: as it can retard the engine by as much as 10% He then said although it says in the book 95 can be used the car works better on 98 or higher so its 98 ron or higher from now on.

I have never liked BP Ultimate; my Fabia never ran as it ought to when I used it. Shell V-power OR Tesco 99 for me. Both provide good performance.

Did he mention why particularly BP Ultimate would retard the engine? Its a 98RON fuel as far as I'm aware.. I'm a V-Power chap too, but interested in why ultimate would retard the engine by upto 10%

Bp Ultimate is not 98 Ron its 97. He explained that because you only used to get 95 or 98 The ECU was never programmed what to do with 97 Ron Fuel, A bit like with them posh chips you can get where you can have different settings for different octanes. So the ECU recognises that its unleaded petrol but it isnt sure what to do with it so goes for safe settings.

does that apply to tesco 99 aswell ?

seeing as the ECU only knows 95 98 ...

I asked that too and he said no. He explained that the ECU is programmed to recognise 95 and 98 or higher upto 118 octane (only available as a race fuel as its about

Where you from Mater im always around Wigan in my black Fabia Vrs.I have a G-tech 0-60 tester if you want a run with it im always up for a bit of techy fun lol.Exept this weekend im just going away.

Going OT from the original thread, but I've been running V-Power for the past few weeks, then went back to Tesco 99 the other day. Not sure if I've really noticed much performance difference (although if anything, the Tesco 99's a little better), but with V-Power, I was getting MUCH better fuel economy - perhaps another 50 miles out of a tank...

Well Id like to challenge that as mine should be producing more power and I dont think 0-60 would be in the mid 6's.

Welcome to have a dual run if you want as Im not far away!

You'll enjoy the rear of a MKII Octavia :)

To make the figures more accurate maybe you could set some drag strip type timing lights on the Lancs near the Little Chef. And how about a burn out area to make sure the tyres are sticky!

Some Marshalls, Some Fans, and we're half way there!

You reckon?

Yep! ;)

Ur, unless I have missed something, you seem to be eluding that a standard VRs would be quicker to 60 than a remapped one....
