tyre advice

Featured Replies

I need to get a new set of tyres for my octavia vrs mk1, I currently have dunlop sport 9000 on it and they are poo, no grip in the wet not much better in the dry. What do you guys run on your cars?

Try a search mate... I would rec; going to 225/45/17 as they have similar rolling radius, My favourite is the Goodyear F1 but others like the Toyos

I run Pirelli Rossos in 225/40/18 and find them good enough for my 230+ Vrs;)

Hi mate, ive been running Toyos for over a year cant fault them.wear rate and grip is excellent.

Vredestein Sporttrac 2's tend to get really good write ups in the German press and if the Vredestein Hytracs we have on our Fabia are anything to go by they should be an excellent tyre (and slightly cheaper than the larger brand names!)

I'd agree with the Toyos too, and with the recommendation of upsizing to 225/45R17s (the bigger tyres are actually cheaper cos they're way more commonly used).

You are soo right about the Dunlops gripping like they are made of the proverbial brown substance in the wet.

Falken 452's. Big-brand performance with budget prices ;)

Im torn between the Falkens, T1-R's and Eagle F1's. Toyos come out at

Ive recently changed from the Toyo's to the Falkens and in all honesty cant tell the difference :o

Have you got much power through the front and whats your driving style?

I've had conti Eco Sport 205/50/17/ Yokohama AVS Sport 205/50/17/ Toyo Proxy T1-R 225/45/17.

Conti's - C R 4 P

Yokohama AVS Sport - Little noisy/Hard wearing/Not great in the wet/Hard ride/ 22,000miles out of fronts without swapping front to back

Toyo T1-R - Quieter than Yoko's/ Softer ride than Yoko's/dont give as much confidence as Yokos

Soon to be 225 bhp, driving style, fairly aggresive but controlled, (racing driver part time), spent a lot of dough on those dunlops and with swopping front to back have only lasted 8000 miles through the winter.

That squares with my experience of Dunlops; their main "advantage" is that they wear out quick, so you can get something better fitted! ;)

Mine has a mere 160bhp and 280lb/ft of torque and my driving style is "enthusiastic" but the Falkens give a lot of feedback and I've pushed them hard in wet and dry and they just get on and grip :D Also been out in an Octy vRS with them and they behave exactly the same.

Goodyear Eagle F1 are rated but wear quite quickly...apparently?

Its a trade-off really between wear and grip.

I used Continental Premium Contact and i am pleased....

Looks to me like the Falken 452's here lads, if they wear quick (no more than others) they're cheap enough to replace!

My Falken 452's have covered 5k of enthusiastic driving and still look like new, so I don't think wear is going to be an issue

I may try the falkens next as the 2 front toyos don't seem to be lasting that long

i will have to buy these myself as if my boss see's that the "new tyres" i had fitted in january are goosed
