How long should my Fabia take to warm up?

Featured Replies

Unsure if it is a problem, but with these cold mornings I know I'm not warm until I arrive at work.

From starting from cold, I drive half a mile to the motorway, and it take about 7 miles of driving at 40-50 mph (road works!) before it's got to temperature. Is this normal?

The car is due to go in for it's first service on Firday, so I just want to check, as I'll have them do the work.

My VR/s takes approx 10 minutes for the engine to run at the optimum tempreature.

Don't worry about it Diesels always take along time to warm up but this is the norm.

Thanks for that, I'll just have to wrap up warmer.

Matt,

All diesel engined cars take ages to warm up. Recommend you take it easy until it has reached normal temperature - especially on the M-way.

Ive halfed my warm up time on both my petrol and diesal by using radiator relief...

you just take 375mls out and add in the same ammount of this stuff. The bottle will do 2 cars and also helps the cooling system work better and the fan cuts in less.

Sorry, but b**lox. How TF does it make you car warm up quicker?

Yeah im a bit dumbfounded myself.

?????

Beats me and I was dubious of the claims on the makers usa website but basically it seems to run along the lines of making the water mix able to hold more heat and more slippy so circulates quicker. Hence it should even out and stop hotspots in the engine and on warming up the car it evens it all out. I know it sounds like a load of crap but it works! The tdi the other morning with an outside temp of -4 deiced itself and was halfway to normal temp with the heater going full whack in around 5mins of idle running.

Not just quicker, but 50% quicker - and it achieves equally miraculous results regardless of engine type, size of radiator, capacity of cooling system, type of coolant used etc etc etc.

TDI,s including pd,s are I belive the most thermally efficient engine on the roads, which means a long time to warm up. You get used to it.

You could always thrash it from cold. That'll do the trick :D

These Fabia vRS's take quite a while to warm up. It's a bit of a shock after the 100bhp 1.4 16v unit in the Arosa. That took only 1-1.5 miles to fully warm up. You just have to think about the great mpg while you're ambling along.

My Furby had it's first service today (Brooklyn skoda, Alcester). I arrived at 08:00 and waited for the car. By 10:00 I was on my way home. I found them to be superb. The mechanic was very good, although the car had done 9949 miles, I was instantly aware that everything had been tightened (or perhaps I was just hoping!?) and felt new again.

When I bought my RS from there (I part exchanged my X reg tacky Ford Fiesta, got a very good deal on the Faby, as they are a Ford and Skoda dealer) I pre-paid for two services, so didn't pay as much. I did do a 300 mile round trip though to take it there, but then again I'm not too impressed with my local dealer, so the money I saved I spent in diesel, but it was a very economical run. Apparently (according to the dash) I was getting 54mpg and was doing an average of 69mph. I'm very very impressed with the car and the service from Brooklyn.
