Air conditioning Port

The topup port for regassing, anyone know where this is on a PD 130?

There isnt a top up port as such. There are two seriving valves one on the bulkhead above the gearbox and one on the o/s chassis leg by the fuel filter.

Unless it has a leak then it should have the correct gas in it. Also alot of the 'top up' cans you get have pressure gauges on them to tell you if there is pressure in them. A bit pointless as pressure isnt relative to gas quanity. The only way to truly know how much refridgerant is in your system is to recover it out with the propper workshop equipment.

VW are doing a countrywide promotion at the moment.

Thanks for the Info guys, I bought one of these cans with the gauge for

IIRC the Octavia 2 hold 550g of R134a, cant remember Fabia, 700g rings a bell. Takes about an hour to do a full recover, vacuum, test and regas.

And as I said pressure doesnt always equate to what gas is in the system. Pressure is temperature dependant. When you buy R134a is comes in a 13kg bottle. The pressure in the bottle will remain constant at a given temp regardless of what amount of gas is in there. The machines we have tend to warm the gas up first as it transfers better as a gas than a liquid.

recently had mine done by a mobile guy, took about an hour as Lummox says, his machine also put in a fresh charge of oil. Interestingly, the car is 6 years old and hadn't been done, but the charge was down to 690g, from a full charge of (I think) 740g. I only had it done because I have a whining compressor for a couple of minutes every time I turn the a/c off. I still have a whining compressor!

I am afraid that I was one of these people that could not see all that A/C stuff going to waste in Halfords - so about a couple of years ago I bought a "Halfords" branded can. Then thought about simple things like VAG even specify different oils for different compressor manufacturers. Fridge guy at work thought I should just get it bad - adding gas without a manifold & gauges - strange - he thought! So, a year later guess what - even more A/C bits appeared to be clogging up Halfords shelves - but once again they were on the higher shelves! I just had to have a pressure gauge - no harm in that - or is there? Well once again I have collected some unusable bits as it now seems that Halfords have, at least over the period I was buying these bits, being bringing this stuff in from the land of the "unregulated refrigerants" ie USA! All the bits I have bought are not metric sizes - so ther is no chance of me being able to harm any A/C system using them. Just to confirm it I tried them on my 2000 Passat, wife's 2003 Polo and my daughter's 2002 Ibiza. So, as the experts say - spend your A/C budget on getting it checked at a certified service point and leave Hafords to dispose of their stock of bits in another way - unless you can not resist a thermometer to check the air delivery temperature - but its not in Centigrade, dash, I think I'll just use a TC.

Kwik Fit are doing regassing of aircon for

Had the Fabia done by a mobile outfit who did it on my drive. Cost about 60 quid and took about an hour. Shame they weren't familiar with the VAG air con system or they would have known why they couldn't hear the clutch engaging ;)

Yet to have Mondeo done and it's 5th birthday is at the start of June so may well consider getting it done....
