How cool is vag-com!

Featured Replies

Hi All! Just got Vag-com up and running, following a string of engine management issues on my Fabia. It's paid for itself already!

One of the most satisfying fixes is the A/C - never worked since I bought the car at the beginning of this year - the switch light would come on when pressed, but no change in temp from the vents. A mechanical mate of mine pointed out that the A/C unit wasn't kicking in at all!

Discovered when doing a scan of the Electronic Control Module (no. 09) that "Engine Control Module Incorrectly Coded" - so changed the code from 00095 to 00071 - aparrently the correct code for my vehicle (I hope!), and the A/C is now working perfectly. It's a shame the sunshine hasn't shown itself since!!

Anyone know why and how my Engine Control Module got to be Incorrectly Coded?

My next task - my Remote C/L isn't working - never has since I got the car. Changed batteries, and followed all advice on here for re-setting without success. Anyone any clues on how to re-programme with vag-com? Answers on a post card!

Cheers all !

Sorry to ask a question on someone elses thread, but how much is VAG-Com and where do you purchase it from? It sounds like a good idea to get one, save money in the long run as im hoping to keep my Furby for quite a while.

Ross-Tech: Home is the manufacturer. There are UK dealers but given the current rate of $vs

Software will cost you $99 + the cost of a cable (OBD2 to serial or usb)

There were a few incorrectly coded modules when the Fabia first came out and as well as the A/C not working there was an 18020 fault code stored. The new code of 00071 sounds right to me, it is dependent on the engine type and whether or not ABS is fitted.

To code the remotes through VAG Com, go into 46 (convenience unit), 10 (adaptation), channel 00 (this will clear existing remotes), channel 01 and enter the number of remotes and press a button on each remote, (instructions will apear in a box)

I used to have Vag-Com for my old Mk3 Golf GTi, does anyone know if the cable is the same? Sort of like a scart looking cable.

Anyone tell me where the socket is?

ta

Socket is behind the "can cooler" (pull it open and then pull it again). Cable is a bit like a Scart lead but I don't know if the Mk3 GTi was fully OBD-2 compliant..... If it was, then your cable will work fine.

Where did you get the value for the correct coding from?

Yeah I think the late Mk3's were OBD-2 compliant. The can cooler is the glove box i take it or the 'fridge' as my missus refers to it.

Brilliant, I can now go have a play,

Cheers Chris

That's the one difficulty with VAG-Com - it's a very powerful tool, but the actual codes are very hard to find, so it's actually quite limited in its use. There are the one or two things lots of people know how to do, but finding correct codes (particularly for Skodas) is a life's work.

 Just got in from work - so many replys! Thanks to all offering advice and info!

Thanks fordfan! Still a bit new to vag-com, so a bit nervous about changing figures and stuffing up my car! Your advice is much appreciated - I'll try it at the weekend.

EddyH - found out that my car was incorrectly coded from another thread on here - guy with same car as mine, and having similar problems. Great place this!

Kebaros - don't go ripping your glove box out mate, the 'can cooler' compartment is the little compartment on the drivers side at the right hand side below your steering colomn. Give it a good tug - the compartment will flop down and expose the socket behind it.

Sebastian runs an excellent resource for the coding information as well as the Ross Tech Wiki which is 'stickied' on Briskoda.

On the MK3 golf it is behind a panel on the dash next to the ashtray.

Nope

The can cooler is under your light switches right hand side of steering wheel

and do not forget the on off switch, (you can only see it in the ON posn)it is top right of the can cooler when open)

Enjoy your cool coke

I have posted on this before, maybe you coud sticky these codes:

Engine Control Unit Codes - Fabia 2000 to ?

00061 petrol engine and air con

00071 petrol engine ABS and air con

00005 diesel engine and air con

00006 diesel engine air con and ABS

Though I don't know how relevant they are to the later Fabias.

These were obtained in 2000 from a very respected man in Skoda Technical (Gerald), who may have retired by now, who was also with Skoda for years before VW took them over.
