first week with my new fabia vrs

Featured Replies

just had my fabia vrs for about a week now and i have not enjoyed driving a car as much in years, i even just take the car out for a spin for no reason now where as in the past driving was a chore to me and i only drove because i had to. This is not the case with the furby vrs, one thing i have noticed is the tendency for me to speed when i dont intend to as the car feels so quick and you are speeding before you even realise it, not that this is a problem i just need to watch what i am doing. I used to own an escort gti which was quite a quick car but doesnt come close to the vrs and that was a group 13 car where as the fabia is only a group 9a, so i have a quicker car which is cheaper to insure. Fuel economy is also much better than my old escort i was only getting about 20-25 mpg with that as i only do a short jorney to work & back, but with the vrs I am getting 35-45 mpg and its still not broken in yet.

So to sum up I LOVE THIS CAR!! and its the best purchase I have made in years.

Yes, it's good innit! :) But no good if you start getting fined or have a prang. :( 30s are tricky generally but it's all about a light right foot. Use the dynamic MPG readout to help, the lighter you press the more MPG and the slower you go - it's quite surprising how little movement you need as well to change it.

I also keep it in 3rd or 4th and around 1200-1500 rpm and have found then you don't tend to speed. Squeeze the gas pedal as well rather than flooring it.

I think that keeping 'sensible' is the biggest challenge in the vRS and requires good discipline, if you can do it (keep to speed limits, decent stopping distance between you and those in front) then you're a good driver.

with the octy i found the hardest thing was going slow because it felt REALLY slow, i'n getting used to the smoothness of the delivery etc so its not to bad now.

Quality cars though which ever you buy.

CHAS you lucky git, We have had our car since Saturday, I have been at work all week but the misses is off and has been driving around in it more than me. I haven't even had a chance to go out by myself yet.... Also it's funny how she always offers to drive now !!!

I cant wait for saturday morning when I pick mine up from Horners!!

and the good thing is the girlfriends working on the sunday!! So I've got no nagging in the passanger seat for a good few hours :-)

Jon I like to refer to the misses as an Organic Rev Limiter

Hi chas,

I agree with everything you just said. If I remember correctly, we both picked our VRS's up on the same day last week (Wednesday), and this is unheard of for me, I have put 700 miles on the clock already!

Unlike you though, I did not come from a quick car to this, I came from a 1.4 Micra, which although not exactly sluggish, it was certainly not quick either. However, at first, I was slightly surprised that it didnt feel quicker. Sure, you can feel that turbo boost come on, which is VERY addictive, but I simply didnt get the same impression of speed as with the Micra (probably not surprising, the Fabia weighs 1,315kg and Micra weighed 865kg, a pretty huge difference in anyones book). However, it did not take long to realise that this car is much faster than the Micra was, especially at more than 60 mph, where the Micra pretty much ran out of puff.

Like you, I cant stop grinning when I drive this car, the whole experience, makes me proud to drive it and even gets me up for work earlier (flexible hours), and thats definitely a good thing. I am also not used to people admiring the car, which they do now, but strangely noone ever admired the Micra :o

While it is certainly not the fastest hot hatch, nor the best handling, as an overall package I feel its unbeatable, and I did my homework carefully and considered many cars, and this just totally comes out on top for me. Its performance is certainly very good though, and will keep pace with all but the fastest hot hatches as standard, and the handling, while maybe not as accomplished as high revving cars like the CTR or the VTS, provides great grins - its not just about the handling for me, its the delivery, the experience, its just so entertaining, albeit not quite as nimble as the Micra was (not surprising), but certainly far superior in terms of stability and grip.

So, that is my little report a week on too. I still think I made the right choice!:thumbup::thumbup:

Is that your excellent review Ive just seen on 'car survey',damned coincidence if it ain't,another x micra owner gone fabby. If it was,how long it take you to type it?! colin

Hi Colin,

Yes it was my review :) It took about 15 minutes to write if I remember correctly. :)

Edit: The two comments on there seem to think I am a Skoda dealer  Oh well, thats what I get for writing a review worth reading :P I shall leave a suitably sarky response to that

Regards, Paul (IT Techie) ;) :P
