Do mobile networks bar handsets these days?

Featured Replies

Hypothetical situation................

Mr X. "looses" their handset and claims for another on the insurance provided by the network (Vodafone). Mr X. takes the opportunity to upgrade his Nokia N73 to an N95, pays a little extra and has another 6 months left on his 18 month contract.

Mr. X finds his old handset down the back of the sofa  - he now has two handsets. Obviously the original SIM will be useless now, but what about the handset? Do they block the IMEI on a lost phone? Is he free to now use either handset (or give it to Mrs. X.)?

Don't be a tight ar5e.

New technology renders the 'lost' handset useless ( for the time being anyway)

They will not only block the sim card, but the phones imei is also barred from ALL uk networks. With co-operation with foreign networks the phone is now also useless in most of europe.

Likely they'd have blocked it as it's lost.

Only way around is DONT turn on in the uk, and sell to someone outside the UK.

Yes.. lost or stolen blocks the sim and the IMEI.. altho technically what if you had your sim in a cheap-o pay-go phone when you lost it? ;) (again depends on network.. some will bar the phone you were using last, others will ban the phone REGISTERED to your account)

Cunning plan - but Mr X. would be claiming on a policy that covers the N73 specifically.

Well the IMEI is set after the phones leave the factory ;)

In Turkey you will get a VERY good price on 2nd hand phones as they are in short supply. :)

didnt block mine:D

Lost it but didnt ring them, didnt get a replacement

two months later i missed a payment and dropped them a call, mentioned that i lost my handset a few months ago and had'nt been using the service since

nice lady offered me a new handset without renewing the contract, got a k800i as a replacment

found the w800i two months later, still works:thumbup:

why not turn it on in the uk? do they send a kill signal? You send kill signals to 'blackberry' phones that resets them to factory settings and wipes them, didn't think that were possible with other phones?

You can get the IMEI number changed on most handsets, but don't try it, it is illegal. But possible....

You dodgy *******!!
