Sudden loss of power then kaputt!

Featured Replies

One for the techies maybe. - Yep it could be any one of 1001 things

On the way to work the other day 50 mph - all of a sudden no power, no bangs no crunches, just the engine gradually slowing- so i managed to make it to the verge - turned her off - then tried to start it up again and NOTHING - zero zilch.

Heck- I bought this car to be reliable! I certainly dont thrash it.

Its a 110 TDi Octy 2002 plate - 75,000mls Any ideas -

The RAC guy said he thought it was a seized engine - surely not - wouldnt my front wheels have locked? A seized engine??? He didnt do any diagnosis at all just said turn the key and of course there was nothing - it didn't even try to work the starter motor. So now I am left ( with no mechanical knowledge) and a guy from the RAC saying he thinks the engine has seized - Heck

Ive read a few articles on this infamous X(109) relay could it be this guys

I've had the turbo cut out b4 and switched off to reboot it but the car was dead! I was very disapointed to find myself on the back of an RAC truck on thursday! Even the guy at the garage said it was a rarity.

Anyone had the same symptoms???

Cheers for any help you can dish out - I cant afford the cost of a new engine at the mo!:(

Did any lights appear on the dash?

Sounds to me like a fuel starvation problem... Dead fuel pump maybe? The same thing happened to me years ago when my old Renault ran out of petrol.

Nope, no lights on dash - ie no warning lights -

When I went to start it, it went throught the usual sequence of showing all of them, then they went out - nothing out of the ordinary, just wouldnt start at all.

Shouldnt I still hear the starter motor trying to go ????
