Broken engine....what are my options?

Featured Replies

Well, last weekend, I was on the m6, and I lost power...

To cut a long story short, I have a cracked Number 3 piston, and a scored bore. :(

Thus, I need a new bottom end, short motor. The bill from the dealer is going to be in the region of 3k. What are my options..... 1.8t? Pd 170?

3k is alot of

I think you'd stuggle to find a 170 bottom end. Cant your existing block be re-bored and new pistons ??

Or maybe get a 2.0 litre 140 bottom end ??

Is there anything 'breaking' worth looking at Dave or are you going the whole 9 yards this time?

Just had a thought, you know that rear bumper off the TFSI you had?, there was a complete engine up for grabs including ECU (don't know if it's still available though).

Now that would be the ultimate Fabia imho with a mapped TFSI under the bonnet!!

Oooooooooooooooooooooh!

Now there is an idea. Anyone give me an idea of price to get that in?

Also does anyone know the engine code please for the 130pd?

If I remember right he wanted

That would be some motor Dave. A lighter front end with oodles and oodles of power, especially with a 1.4 badge on the back:rofl:

:D hell yes go on Shifty get it done

you can get pd engines(bare engine) on exchange for about

I think you must be a Skoda jinx Dave tbh.

I'd buy an unburstable Yank Tank if I were you ( understressed Mustang, or something rubbish like that;) )

Spoke to Ian before, he said it was fubared :( aww poor fabbie.....how could you?

I hope you find some way to sort it :( :(

Lend him yours Loz.

Engine code is ASZ Dave. BLT is also a PD130 but the newer one.

That would be a mamouth task to put the TFSi in the Fabia - Nice if it worked though.

I seem to remember WW looking at PD150's but decided it wasn't much of a gain. A 170 would be very hard to source and again probably quite a job to put in. I may be wrong but I think they use a different ECU.

Fix it up on the cheap and get yourself a Blue one mate.

Actually thinking about it I wonder if it would rebore out to 2.0 ltr??

PD?

PD?

:nol2:

tis a petrol one, but the block is pretty much identical to the pd engine, but the bores are 81.5mm instead on 79.5 in the diesel

Thanks Andy :)

So...........2.0 petrol block not really what I need, thanks anyway Tom.

Tfsi - gonna be a mammoth task, and about 7k all done. Then will need tuning.

1.8t - how much? How possible?

2.0 16v derv unit? Possible? Same mounts?

2.8v6?

V10 Derv?

Anyone know ideas of prices?

Bit suspect as there wasn't a VRS in 2002

Id' say the best bet would be a ASZ engine from a Fabia from a breakers and go from there. anything else is going to cost mega bucks just in time alone let alone custom parts required.

IIRC, it was a struggly enough for Jason to put a PD130 into a PD100 car, let alone changing to petrol. It would be nice, but the complications (things like changing fuel tank and fuel lines) and cost must make it trouble than it's worth. Unless you want to completely strip it out and turn it into a track car, beyond what Paul (Ffelan) did with his old red baron octy because it would be a point of no return and not sellable.

I'm with Ross. Try and find a salvaged 1.9PD and do it up on the cheap. :)

I'd never do a Ffellan.

The car is fully stripped out. All thats in it is two sparco circuits chairs, dash, and a sub :)
