Shifty's VW Jetta MK 1

Featured Replies

Well, i happened to be in the right place at the right time for this, and i honestly don't expect everyone to appreciate it, but for those of you who will:-

I have just bought a white, 1983 Jetta 1.3 c. One owner from new, every MOT, full service history, in fantastic condition. I wasn't looking to buy this type of car at all, but as I need a smoker, and this is in the condition I found it, and at a bargain price, i bought it.

The paint is in very good condition, but I will of course give it a polish etc and update the pictures.

It's so original and well cared for, I am very tempted not to molest it in any way.

It is quite literally begging for a 60mm drop, some deep dish wheels, stretched tyres, and a 1.8 16 valve engine though...........................BEGGING!

Begging for a 1.8T :P

There'll be quite a few who will appreciate that mate

Looks great

But I'm not sure I could resist the temptation to 'fettle' :rubchin: :D

Steve

Go on then, how much.

I cant recall seeing one recently, never mind that amazing condition. My brothers other half had one, of simillar vintage but it was falling to pieces with rust.

Molesting things is half the fun!

It really looks mint - seems that classic VW stuff has become a fashion on here...:)

Brisk might have to open up a new forum for Classic VW metal.....

I appreicate it...gut it and get on track, save your next n car's for pootling and sunday cruises on the prom.

tidy :) love it!

Blimey, that really is immaculate.

You've either got to go all out and have a wicked street sleeper, or leave it genuine and original.

Keen to know what you paid... I'm sure it won't go down in value if its kept in that condition... :)

Nice, very understated good for some descrit fun with a 1.8t up front.

Very cool but as you say its just begging to be slammed on some polished bbs splits like this although its a 2 door you get the idea 15272.attach

She is lovely Dave. I remember many happy days in an early diesel version of that Jetta:thumbup: and I love the LED dash warning lights. Please don

When I saw the thread what you say below sprung staight to mind. Would go lower than 60mm though

Dave. Mint looking mota  - had a 1990 (approx) Jetta TD Sport for private-hire driving for some 60k until it was written off by uninsured driver (long long story). Really liked it - mega-quick for a diesel of it's time - though mine had a propensity for chewing-up drive-shafts. Still, loved it to bits.

Good good 'fun' car - a la Fab vRS.

And, again, hope the run of bad luck you're having soon comes to an end

Leave it standard,

look after it and show it.

Its in fantastic condition,to good to go messing with......................

How long can you last before tampering?

Anyone care to start taking bets?????

One that good, leave it standard or sell it to me it'll go nice with my Mk1 1.3c Golf.

If you want to mollest one buy a ****heap to start with not an original condition one.

71 VW Camper - very very low mileage went for 21k on eBay

The one Jamie Oliver used in his series is going to Auction shortly, its been renovated & a bigger engine fitted but the guide price is 50,000

reminds me of an old VW polo I used to have... the dash with the LED's ect... :)

will it run on unleaded? isn't it old enough to have an engine that wears its valve seats wear out if run on unleaded? or had it been "done" (hardened seats ect)

lovely car, my mate in Czech had one delivered from States and can't praise it enough

Thanks for all the comments. I've been "detailing" it as and when I've found time. I've managed to get some stubborn grime rom the paint, and I have clayed it, and applied one coat of Mer polish so far. Another couple of coats, then a good coat of Meguires should see it sparkling. It's on ebay at the moment with a silly reserve, so if it meets it, it will be t'raa. If not - it gets a fresh engine, a 1.8 16 valve on carbs and it will look like this after the summer show season.....

No Dave, donet sell it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just to let you know, that there is a common foible with these 1.3 engines, They drink oil, so keep an eye on it.

My son had 1 of these, and the VW forums told him about this.
