Amazing how the main structure stayed intact.

Yeah that was one heck of an impact. Glad he's relatively unharmed, with that kinda speed

He was braking from approx 190 MPH when he collided with the other driver :thumbdwn:

The cockpit top bit actually came away (as can be seen in the pic above).

He was very lucky.

Thats the idea, everything comes off the cockpit safety cell, this dissapates the energy of the crash and slows it down quicker whilst protecting the driver.

The bit I Mean, sits on the drivers shoulders and is the headrest too? It's there to keep arms inside in a crash, but as it was so violent, it came away early meaning his arms were waving around as he rolled.

Poland's Robert Kubica left the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve aboard a medical helicopter on Sunday complaining of pain 'all over his body'' date=' according to sources in Montreal.

Reports that he broke his leg in the horror shunt are believed to have been based on an in-car radio transmission from race winner Lewis Hamilton's engineer, but the news was not confirmed by the circuit Medical Centre.

Medical Centre officials did however confirm that Kubica emerged from the 280kph smash with 'no internal injuries', and he was due to have x-rays and other checks at the L'Hopital du Sacre-Coeur in downtown Montreal.

The only other information came from Kubica's manager Daniele Morelli, who said in a television interview that Robert spoke "nearly normally" before being airlifted.[/quote']

Seemingly his Injuries are not confirmed yet, and the leg break was just pit talk spread about

Nothing broken at all  , he may even be fit to drive next weekend according to some reports which would be remarkable. Extract below lifted from the BBC........................

After initial reports of a broken leg, Kubica was later said to have suffered concussion and a sprained right ankle.

He was airlifted to hospital after being extracted form the wreckage of his car.

But team officials later said Kubica had "escaped relatively unscathed" and he is expected to be released from hospital on Monday.

amazing..... :)

That is unbelievable.

When I saw it happen I thought he'd be lucky to be alive!!

A very lucky escape.

It was an awesome crash - even hit the dead car parked on the verge too...

I thought it could have been a lot worse - lucky sod.

All the best to him though!

Sorry Tom; but I think Kubica just missed (fortunately) the Torro Ross parked up at the side. Having been launched by the kerb and grass Robert hit the wall almost head-on (about 110 degrees) at about 120mph or perhaps more, and pushed the concrete block that must weigh several, if not many tons, back about a foot.

Here's a pic of the moment of impact (courtesy of Autosport):-

It is a testiment to modern engineering and design, that Kubica has only got a sprained ankle and light concussion; and it hardly seems credible that it is being suggested that he will race at Indianapolis next week.

I'm sure we all wish him well.

Yeh he launched off the curb and cleared the nose of the Torro Rosso. It's incredible he survived let alone didn't break anything.

LOL what's going on with the people in the pic above?? It looks like a driver is sat in a deckchair with his feet in the air, and one of the stewards hasn't even seen the incident and his mate is tapping him on the shoulder....

Edit: Looking again it looks like the guy in the red got his feet on the car, while he scratches himself like a chimp...that's a close one.

Someones slapped a copyright claim to the footage and now the intial video links posted are no longer viewable :thumbdwn:

That'll be Bernie - he owns all F1 rights.

This is supposed to make me want to watch more F1 how?

The guy in the red is a Torro Rosso driver. Tee fact is that this photo was probably taken before the marshalls had even picked up on the fact that there was an accident occuring.

On the 2005 International Rally of Wales I was unlucky to be marshalling at the point Matt Wilson had his accident flat out in 6th in a WRC Focus and it's amazing how much of the accident has occured before you have got moving.
