Quick remap question

Featured Replies

First part of this question.

How many miles do people usually leave it before they chip their furby vRS's ? The only reason I ask is as the furby is still loosening up after a few thousand miles there is no point in getting it chipped until the engine is completly run in.

Now the second question.

Do people generally go for an off the shelf remap chip from Jabba/AMD etc ? I have no mods on my car and I am not likely to so an off the shelf remap should be fine right ?

And now the last part.

I want to be able to switch the remap off before servicing so my warranty is not void, which chips/mapping system allow you to do this ? Are there chip's that are generally considered better than others and more reliable ? If so which ones ?

Thanks in advanced Ivan

ive got amd 1 click, you can switch backwards and forwards from standard to upgrade.i bought the generic and it gives about 160-170 bhp and 270lbft. i'm actually getting it upgraded next week to the custom -

its best to let diesels have 5-6k miles on before you map them.....

I want to be able to switch the remap off before servicing so my warranty is not void....
Switching it off won't change the effect that the remap has on your warranty - which more often than not seems to be down to how your dealer views mods. Likewise if you switch it off after an accident - having failed to declare it to your insurer - it won't then mean that your insurance is valid. If you hide the mod from the dealer and then have problems which could be due to the remap, the fact that your car is/was modded can be uncovered. SkodaAuto UK could ask the dealer to send them the ECU for investigation if there was reasonable suspicion that any major problem involving a warranty claim was due to ECU mods. I think that honesty is the best policy if the issue arises with your dealer - and it is absolutely essential with your insurer. In a nutshell, don't mod your car if you have concerns about the impact on the car's warranty. I had severe reservations but eventually bit the bullet with a Jabba remap and would do the same again for the sheer enjoyment gained! :D

Ffelan cheers for the advice. I was also thinking about waiting till after the first service maybe.

Anotherbadname - The custom remap - will this give the same output as the Jabba chip ?

DGW I know about the insurance but it's the warranty I would like to keep, now if the AMD one is good for 180+bhp then I would tend to go for that !

Totally undetectable? That'd be a tuning box then. Bit crude but effective.

I personally prefer a custom map to an off the shelf one.

I usually wait 8-10k before remapping any of my cars

And today's mileage is............? :)

TaviaRS how much difference does the custom map usually give percentage wise ?

I wouldn't go for a superchips setup BTW as I have heard horror stories. It would have to be Jabba or AMD etc.

I will change your mind shortly.....

Who you calling short?;) Oh and V-Tune is custom :P

Now let's see, off the shelf will give 220ish, custom seems to give 230ish so roughly 5% more. Then there is the saving in the cost of the map. IIRC Jabba works out at least

Ooops, just spotted you're a smog monster! :D Differences are closer with diesels I think (knowing nowt about TDI tuning) but Jabba are cheaper.

Power increases are around the same (custom) and both are done via OBD/serial port.

Jabba is cheaper for the basic remap...you also have to add on the price of the 1 Click box for AmD (no discount forthcoming.....hopefully Ross is working on this;)).

As has already been said warranty generally voids the area that's been modded and it's also depends on your dealer. Some are more "firendly" than others.

Insurance wise...declare it.

Cheers guys, notes taken to be honest the engines are reliable anyway so warranty should only be effected if the engine goes bang due to the chip, the others parts should still be honoured... well hopefully.

Mine was done on about 5,000 miles and I can feel that is has loosened up a bit more since then. Will probably get it tweeked again if I get the exhaust replaced and a couple of the other mods I have in the pipeline.

I'm in the same boat as Chavyboy, well kind of. My dealer has said they can get a custom Jabba map for

Good to see that they will honour the warranty, but I'm sure the custom map is usually about
